Abstract

A COOLING DEVICE This invention relates to a cooling device that comprises a door opener mechanism (4) through which the user can have access to the inside of the body (2) by opening the door (3) with little effort, though it is difficult to open it because of the vacuum generated during the refrigeration cycle as a result of the pressure difference between the interior and the surroundings of the body (2) and because of the magnetic gasket located between the body (2) and the door (3).

Description

  • This invention relates to a cooling device comprising a door opener mechanism through which the door is opened easily.
  • In the current state of the art, the interior of cooling devices is evacuated as a result of the air circulation during the refrigeration cycle. When the door is to be opened the user experiences difficulties due to the vacuum generated.
  • In the current state of the art; in the German Utility Model DE29912563U , in the European Patent Document EP0598979 and in the European Patent Application EP1174668 , descriptions are given of mechanisms providing the opening of the door easily whereby the body is pushed as a consequence of the actuation of a rack by a handle which is connected to it and rotating about an axis. A further door handle is known from US5908228 .
  • The aim of the present invention is the realization of a cooling device comprising a door opener mechanism through which the door can be opened easily by application of a small amount of force though it is difficult to open it because of the vacuum generated during the refrigeration cycle as a result of the pressure difference between the interior and the surroundings of the device and because of the magnetic gasket located between the body and the door.
  • The cooling device designed to fulfill the objectives of the present invention is illustrated on the attached figures where:
    • Fig. 1 - is a perspective view of a cooling device comprising a door opener mechanism.
    • Fig. 2 - is a schematic representation of a door opener mechanism when the door is closed.
    • Fig. 3- is a schematic representation of a door opener mechanism while opening the door.
    • Fig. 4 - is a schematic representation of a door opener mechanism comprising a gear when the door is closed.
  • Elements shown on figures are numbered as follows: -
    1. 1- Cooling device
    2. 2- Body
    3. 3- Door
    4. 4- Door opener mechanism
    5. 5- Body of the mechanism
    6. 6- Handle
    7. 7- Rack
    8. 8- Pinion
    9. 9- Spring
    10. 10- Pivot
    11. 11- Gear
  • Cooling devices (1), preferably refrigerators and freezers, comprise a body (2) where foods and beverages that are to be cooled are placed, a door (3) providing the access to the inside of the body (2) and, a door opener mechanism (4) which operates by utilizing a rack and pinion system and secures to open and close the door (3).
  • The door opener mechanism (4) comprises a handle (6) on the door (3) that provides the opening and closing thereof; a pinion wheel (8) which is connected to the handle (6) and is actuated with it; a pivot (10) which the pinion (8) rotates about; a rack (7) which is actuated by the pinion (8) as it is rotating about the pivot (10) and has appropriate teeth dimensions and pitch to cooperate with the pinion (8) by which the body (2) and the door (3) are separated by applying a small amount of force by pushing the rack (7) towards the body (2); a body of the mechanism (5) on the door (3) where all of the parts are located and the rack (7) is supported; and a spring (9) that moves the pinion (8) in the counter direction to bring the rack (7) back to its initial position.
  • The pinion (8) and the rack (7) comprise several teeth of rack and pinion system that can move inside each other and are in the same forms. Therefore, when the handle (6) is moved it rotates about the pivot (10) and meanwhile the teeth on the pinion, which moves with the handle, try to move inside the teeth of the rack (7) and thereby actuating the rack (7). The rack (7) moves away from the body of the mechanism (5) and thus from the door (3) it is fixed onto and pushes the body (2) it faces. Thereby, the door (3) opens easily by separating from the body (2). When the user releases the handle (6), the pinion (8) moves in the counter direction by means of the spring (9) and at the same time it provides to bring the rack (7) back to its initial position by the teeth with appropriate dimensions and pitch.
  • In another application of the present invention, door opener mechanism (4) comprises one or more gears (11) placed between the rack (7) and the pinion (8) to further decrease the force applied to the handle (6) by which the motion of the pinion (8) is transferred to the rack (7).
  • By means of the present invention, the force necessary to open the door (3) is obtained easily though it is difficult to open it because of the vacuum generated during the refrigeration cycle as a result of the pressure difference between the interior and the surroundings of the body (2) and because of the magnetic gasket located between the body (2) and the door (3), and the door (3) easily separates from the body (2). Thereby, the user can easily access to the inside of the body (2).
