Liquid-cooled internal combustion engine with cylinder banks arranged inclined to one another, in particular V-engine, comprising a cylinder crankcase (3) and cylinder heads (4, 4 ') separately assigned to the cylinder banks (2, 2'), wherein the cylinder banks (2, 2 ') have separate outer and inner cooling jackets (6, 6'; 7, 7 ') via cylinder tubes (5), and A coolant is supplied to the outer, exhaust-side cooling jackets (6, 6 ') via an inlet line (9) running in the V-space (8) between the cylinder banks (2, 2') and distribution channels (10, 10 ') arranged on the housing end (arrow A) that passes into the respective cylinder head (4, 4 ') on the exhaust gas side and after a transverse flow (arrows B) flows into the inner cooling jackets (7, 7') of the cylinder banks (2, 2 ') adjacent to the V-space (8), from which the coolant passes through throttle openings (11) in cylinder bank boundaries (12) in the lower section of the V-space (8) into a drain line (15) formed by means of transverse walls (13, 13 ') on the housing end and a separate cover (14) (arrows C) , in the the longitudinally interspersed, specially designed inlet line (9) is arranged in openings (16) in the transverse walls (13, 13 '), whereby a connection (17) of the inlet line (9) assigned to a coolant pump (18) is assigned a connection (19) of the outlet line (15) for the coolant pump (18) which is arranged geodetically above it.
