Description

The present invention generally relates to lighting devices.

It relates more particularly to a lighting device of the type consisting of a container with at least partially transparent or translucent walls, this container containing a hot-melt fuel incorporating at least one wick, the free end of this wick being liable to be ignited to light up.

Lighting devices of the aforementioned type are well known to those skilled in the art. They have the advantage, compared to conventional candle-type lighting devices, to prevent sagging of the combustible material during its heating. Moreover, they make it possible to obtain, in a simple manner, lighting devices of various shapes. However, such lighting devices require the use of a large amount of fuel.

An object of the present invention is to propose a lighting device of the aforementioned type whose design greatly reduces the amount of hot melt fuel required for the operation of the device, and which allows greater security.

For this purpose, the subject of the invention is a lighting device of the type consisting of a container with at least partially transparent or translucent walls, this container containing a hot-melt fuel incorporating at least one wick, the free end of this wick. being capable of being ignited for illumination, characterized in that the container is partially filled with a non-combustible liquid enclosed in the container by the hot melt plug fuel.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the non-combustible liquid is a liquid, preferably aqueous, transparent or translucent, colored or not.

The invention will be better understood on reading the following description of an exemplary embodiment, with reference to the single figure which shows a schematic sectional view of a lighting device according to the invention.

Ce solide 5 est de préférence collé aux parois du récipient 1 de manière à maintenir un positionnement précis de ce solide 5 à l'intérieur du liquide 4.As shown in this single figure, the lighting device, object of the invention consists of a container 1 with walls at least partially transparent or translucent to allow viewing of the contents of the container. This container 1 can affect a large number of shapes. In the example shown, this container 1 is constituted by a stemmed glass. The constituent material of this container may be glass, a plastic material or any other material capable of withstanding a rise in temperature. This container 1 is partially filled with a non-combustible liquid 4. This non-combustible liquid 4 is, in the example shown, constituted by water. However, any other liquid generally transparent or translucent, colored or not, could have been used. This non-combustible liquid 4 is kept inside the container 1 by a fuel 2 thermofusible cap. This hot-melt fuel 2 can consist of a gel that is hot-cast on the surface of the liquid 4 to adhere, after cooling, to the walls of the container 1. This fuel 2 will therefore generally be a hydrophobic elastomer gel based at least on oil. hydrogenated paraffin and copolymer products. This type of gel is well known to those skilled in this art and is sold especially under the name CANDEL'GEL by CANDELIS SARL. Of course, the density of the fuel 2 is less than the density of the liquid 4. This fuel 2 may also contain at least one odoriferous substance and / or a dye to accentuate the contrast between the fuel 2 and the non-combustible liquid 4. The container 1 may finally contain a solid 5 to reduce the amount of liquid 4 to be introduced into the container 1. This solid 5 will generally be constituted by a decorative element. This solid 5 is preferably bonded to the walls of the container 1 so as to maintain a precise positioning of this solid 5 inside the liquid 4.

During the manufacture of such a lighting device, the procedure is as follows. The container 1 is filled with the liquid 4. Inside the volume of this liquid 4, there is optionally introduced a solid 5 immobilized or not to the walls of the container 1. A thermofusible fuel 2 is heated to a temperature greater than its temperature. melting then allowed to cool a few moments before casting on the surface of the liquid 4. For example, the fuel is heated to a melting temperature of the order of 120 ° C and then cooled to a temperature of 80 ° C. This cooling step makes it possible to avoid a bubbling of the fuel 2 on the surface of the liquid 4. This fuel 2 is a heat-cast gel on the surface of the liquid 4, preferably in the form of at least two successive layers. The casting of the second layer is done after cooling of the first layer. Before casting of the second layer, the wick 3, generally equipped, with its end opposite its free end 3A may be ignited, a plate is disposed, through this plate, on the surface of the first layer. The second layer of fuel is cast so that the wick 3 is integrated in the second layer. The fuel used thus forming the cap of the container is introduced in an amount such that one end of the wick 3 protrudes from the cap and can thus be ignited to allow illumination of the assembly. Such a device then operates in the manner of a candle simply by igniting the free end of the wick.
