Abstract

There is described a tool for cutting both gentlemen and ladies' hair which consists of a V-shaped blade (6) at the end of a tapered, thin handle (4) which is capable of obtaining special cutting angles that are quite different from those attainable the scissors or razors. In particular, said V-shaped blade consists of a pair of razor-blades (8) which are supported by a suitable V-shaped blade-holder (12) so that their cutting edges (10) face each other and slightly project from the inside contour of the blade-holder, thus forming a continuous sharpangle cutting edge where hair is caught.

Description

  • The present invention relates to the technical equipments for hairdressers and particularly to a tool for cutting both gentlemen and ladies' hair which allows the hairdresser to cut it by carving so as to easily and readily obtain special cutting angles with the maximum precision that are quite different from those attainable with scissors or razors. Thus, a "sculptured" haircut is provided.
  • This is achieved according to the invention by a cutting tool consisting of a V-shaped blade at the end of a tapered, thin handle to be held preferably between thumb, forefinger and middle finger. When a hair lock is caught within the opening angle of the blade, it is very easy for the hairdresser to make a clean cut as desired by short movements of his hand and to pass then to the following lock.
  • According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a primary feature of the same is that said V-shaped blade consists of a pair a razor-blades located in a suitable V-shaped blade-holder so that their cutting edges face each other and project slightly from the contour of the blade-holder so as to provide a continuous sharp-angle cutting edge.
  • A second feature of the invention is that the slender handle has a central reference part provided with two diametrically opposite flat faces which are parallel to the plane of the cutting blade, i.e. the lying plane of the blade-holder. In this way, when the user holds the tool among his fingers, he can feel by touch the correct operating position and keep it without any problem for the whole working time so as to check continuously the position of the plane of the cutting blade.
  • A third feature of the invention is that the blade-holder can be quickly coupled to the handle, preferably by means of a bayonet cap, so as to make it easy to replace the blade-holder and to guarantee its stability after the insertion.
  • Still another feature of the invention is that the end of the handle remote from the blade has a tapered shape ending with a tip by which the hair locks can be caught again during the hair dressing.
  • Further features and advantages of the invention will be more readily evident from the following detailed description with reference to the accompanying drawings which show a preferred embodiment thereof. In the drawings:
  • Fig. 1 is an exploded view of the blade-holder with two cutting razor-blades;
  • Fig. 2 shows a perspective view of the handle of the tool with the disassembled blade-holder insertion device;
  • Fig. 3 shows the same handle with the assembled insertion device and the blade-holder ready to be inserted;
  • Fig. 4 shows a sectioned view in enlarged scale of the mechanism for securing the blade-holder to the handle;
  • Fig. 5 shows a perspective view of the cutting tool assembled with all its components under operating conditions.
  • With reference to the figures, the cutting tool according to the invention is generally formed of a slender handle 4 carrying a V-shaped blade 6 at one end, the symmetry axis of which coincides with the longitudinal axis of handle 4.
  • According to a feature of the invention, only the inside contour of the V-shaped blade is sharpened and forms the cutting edge of the blade. Such a measure provides a cutting tool operating in a quite different manner from scissors and razors. Actually, because of the particular V shape of the cutting edge the hair can be easily enter the opening angle of the blade and get in touch with its cutting edges. The hair will be sharply cut by carving without splitting or unnerving just by passing the blade on hair.
  • In a preferred embodiment cutting blade 6 consists of a pair of razor-blades 8 of steel provided with a cutting edge 10 and located within a blade-holder 12 consisting of two halves 12a, 12b which can be coupled with each other in a fixed way during manufacturing. In particular, as it can be seen in Figs. 2 and 3, the two razor-blades are arranged so that their cutting edges projecting from the inside contour of the blade-holder overlap each other at the vertex of the blade-holder opening angle.
  • In the illustrated embodiment, in order to facilitate the reciprocal positioning of the razor-blades, the latter are provided with holes 11 capable of receiving corresponding bolts 13 projecting from the inside faces of the two halves 12a. 12b of the blade-holder. As it can be seen from Figs. 1 and 3, blade-holder 12 is provided at its lower side with a male coupling member 14 having a through hole 16. Such coupling member 14 is capable of being inserted like a bayonet inside a transversal recess 18 formed at end 20 of handle 4 which is threaded at the outside. There is provided a snap locking device comprising a spring 22 urging a ball 24 (see Fig. 4) to enter hole 16 of male member 14. Spring 22 abuts against the inside wall of a sleeve 26 which is screwed to threaded end 20 and guided within a diametrical hole 28 provided at the same end, as it can be seen in Figs. 2 and 4.
  • Such sleeve 26 has the shape of a truncated cone with its larger base pointing towards the free end of the handle so as to provide a steady support to the rear portion of the blade-holder from which male coupling member 16 projects.
  • According to a further feature of the invention the slender handle, preferably of metal, is provided with a central part having two flat longitudinal surfaces 32, 34 which are parallel to the cutting plane. This allows the operator to check the inclination of the cutting plane by touch.
