Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a dampening solution concentrate and dampening solution and the use thereof in the offset printing process.
In offset printing, aluminum plates which have a hydrophilic surface in the non-printing areas and carry a hydrophobic layer in the printing areas are usually clamped onto a printing cylinder. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic areas lie in one plane, which is why offset printing is also referred to as "flat printing". When printing, a dampening solution is required in addition to the printing ink, which serves to keep the non-printing areas hydrophilic, so that the printing ink is only accepted by the hydrophobic areas and transferred to the printing substrate via the rubber blanket. Various substances are usually added to the dampening solution to stabilize the offset printing process, e.g. should optimize the compatibility with the printing ink, the pH value or the viscosity, or minimize disturbances caused by water of different hardness. Other substances in conventional dampening solution additives serve to protect the plate and to prevent microbial contamination of the system. In machine designs with so-called alcohol dampening systems, isopropyl alcohol is added to the dampening solution in addition to a conventional dampening solution additive. This alcohol has the task of ensuring optimal wetting of the printing form and thus ensuring the required print quality.
For reasons of environmental protection, workplace hygiene and In order to save costs, efforts are being made to develop fountain solution compositions which enable printing without isopropyl alcohol.
When selecting or formulating alcohol substitutes, however, there were serious problems with regard to their influence on the color / water balance or with regard to the water absorption of the color. A large number of alcohol substitutes leads to an increased water absorption of the ink, which results in considerable printing problems, such as emulsification and toning.
Der Einsatz der hydrotropen Verbindungen führt jedoch zu den oben erwähnten Störungen des Farb/Wasser-Gleichgewichts.EPA 0251 621 describes an aqueous dampening solution or a dampening solution concentrate with substitutes for the isopropyl alcohol. The dampening solution additive and the alcohol substitute are added separately according to the examples (2-component system). Furthermore, the solution or the concentrate contains a hydrotrope to increase the solubility of surface-active agents. In the finished dampening solution, the precipitation of the very high-dose wetting agent should be prevented. However, the use of the hydrotropic compounds leads to the above-mentioned disturbances in the color / water balance.
Furthermore, such 2-component systems in which the dampening solution has to be prepared from a conventional dampening solution additive and an alcohol substitute to be metered separately lead to difficulties. This is particularly so because such a procedure is not possible with the automatic dosing systems currently in use. The printers would have to be re-equipped accordingly.
No. 4,278,467 also describes a dampening solution with a Substitute for isopropyl alcohol, which is however available as a two-component system.
Another problem with the formulation of isopropyl alcohol-free dampening solutions was that the alcohol substitutes, which were only water-soluble to a limited extent, were frequently not miscible or compatible with the other formulation components. As described for example in EPA 0251 621, this was attempted to be solved by using hydrotropes or emulsifiers. However, these additives lead to the difficulties mentioned above, so that the use of these substances in dampening solution circuits is generally not possible.
Another problem with the formulation of isopropyl alcohol-free one-component systems was that butoxyethanol as an alcohol substitute in higher concentrations (about 1%, based on the total dampening solution) can lead to premature destruction of the copying layer of the printing plates.
Finally, when formulating, it must be taken into account that a dampening solution may only have a specific value range for the dynamic surface tension.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide, in particular, a dampening solution as a one-component system for offset printing which is isopropyl alcohol-free, does not have the disadvantages mentioned and nevertheless leads to a print quality comparable to the use of dampening solutions containing isopropyl alcohol.
- a) 1-15 Gew.-% Puffersubstanzen,

This is the case with a dampening solution which is produced in a conventional manner from a dampening solution concentrate according to the invention.
Due to the high machine speeds, a dynamic method should be selected for the measurement of the surface tension. Surface tensiometers are therefore not suitable.
Buffer substances which can be used are, for example, di- and tri-carboxylic acids, such as citric acid or malic acid, mineral acids, such as phosphoric acid, alkali metal hydroxides, e.g. Sodium hydroxide or phosphates such as sodium dihydrogen phosphate or disodium hydrogen phosphate can be used.
The water-soluble polysaccharides, polyglycols or polyhydric alcohols serve in particular to protect the printing form.
Als Konservierungsmittel können beispielsweise Isothiazolinone, Benzylalkoholhemiformal, n-Methylolchloracetamid verwendet werden. For example, isothiazolinones, benzyl alcohol hemiformal, n-methylolchloroacetamide can be used as preservatives.
The nonionic, low-foaming surfactants are commercially available, for example, under the following names: Surfynol 104 (tertiary acetylene glycol), Disponil LS2 (fatty alcohol ethoxylates) and marlosol (fatty acid ethoxylates).
