Definitions
- the invention relates to a tank, in particular a spherical tank for storing oil, fuel or chemicals, with an inner wall and an outer wall surrounding it at a distance with the formation of a leak monitoring space, the inner wall and the outer wall being formed from glass-fiber reinforced plastic and the leak Monitoring space is formed by a resin-impregnated, hardened spacer fabric made of reinforcing fibers, one fabric layer of which is firmly connected to the inner wall and the other fabric layer of which is firmly connected to the outer wall, and the webs connecting its two fabric layers, forming a cavity that forms the leak monitoring space, generally at right angles are directed to the inner and outer wall, and a method for its production.
- a tank which has an inner wall and an outer wall surrounding the same, which is formed by a fabric glued to the inner wall.
- This fabric is impregnated with resin from the outside, the density of the fabric being chosen so that the resin does not penetrate it completely, but only over part of its thickness, so that an untreated and therefore untreated part of the outer wall and the inner wall flexible tissue is present, which absorb leakage can and their display enables.
- This known tank thus has a relatively stable outer shell, which, however, is connected to the inner wall via a relatively compliant fabric (namely its unimpregnated layer).
- This relatively compliant intermediate layer prevents an effective introduction of force from the outer to the inner wall or vice versa, so that the outer wall can contribute only relatively little to the stiffening of the tank.
- the untreated tissue can make almost no contribution to the force absorption.
- DE-A-26 58 111 describes a double-walled tank made of glass fiber reinforced plastic, a spacer layer being arranged between the two walls of the tank, which is made of granular material, e.g. Gravel, or consists of preformed spacers, which can optionally be connected to each other by an embedded wire or a laminated glass mat.
- granular material e.g. Gravel
- a tank in which the leak monitoring space is formed from a material which is capable of transmitting forces between the inner and outer wall and which is designed so that liquid in this material can flow.
- felt or a honeycomb structure or plastic ribs or an extruded mesh or fabric with continuous passages is proposed for this.
- the use of a felt if the felt is to be permeable to liquid, does not bring about sufficient power transmission from the inner to the outer shell or vice versa.
- the arrangement of honeycomb structures or plastic ribs on the outer surface of a spherical surface is complex and technically complicated, especially if one and the same structure forming the leak monitoring space is to be usable for tanks of different sizes.
- a non-prepublished older EP-A-504 708 discloses a hollow plastic body, in particular a tank, in which, in one embodiment, a double-pole fabric is provided between an inner wall and an outer wall.
- the double pile fabric consists of an upper fabric, a lower fabric and pile threads extending transversely between them.
- the wall in the form of a winding should consist of one or more strips of an uncut double pole fabric.
- a spacer fabric consists of two fabric layers, which are connected to one another by webs, which are formed by threads of the fabric. These web threads keep the two layers of fabric at a distance.
- the invention aims to avoid the disadvantages and difficulties of the known tanks and has as its object to create a tank of the type described in the introduction, in which a concrete layer to be provided for static reasons is not necessary. Furthermore, material savings should be achieved by reducing the wall thicknesses of the inner and outer walls, and simple and inexpensive manufacture of the tank should be possible.
- the spacer fabric can be used to produce a sandwich laminate with very good physical properties in a simple manner by soaking the spacer fabric with resin, for example polyester resin, with either the resin application being metered precisely or resin being applied in excess and the excess Resin is then squeezed out.
- resin for example polyester resin
- the spacer fabric is reshaped by the resin impregnation into a stable three-dimensional structure, the two fabric layers becoming rigid plates and the threads or fibers connecting the fabric layers being rigid and being approximately perpendicular to the plates Form extending webs that fix the fabric layers against each other. It is particularly advantageous that the spacer fabric can be deformed up to a certain minimum bending radius without folds, not only over a cylinder surface, but also over a spherical surface.
- the part of the tank that is used to achieve the leak monitoring space is also used to absorb the force, i.e. designed as a load-bearing component.
- the sandwich construction formed in this way results in a substantial increase in the stability of the tank, so that there is no need for a supporting concrete outer shell. It is also possible to greatly reduce the wall thicknesses of the inner and outer shell without having to accept losses in stability or strength.
- a particularly inexpensive embodiment is characterized in that the outer wall is sprayed onto the spacer fabric.
- the webs connecting the two fabric layers of the spacer fabric have a height of 3 to 10 mm, in particular a height of about 5 mm.
- a method for producing a tank according to the invention is characterized in that the inner wall is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic and liquid resin is applied to the outside of the inner wall before the outer surface of the inner wall has completely hardened, into which a spacer fabric adapted to the shape of the inner wall is applied embedded in the inner wall facing fabric layer, whereupon liquid resin is applied to the outside of the spacer fabric, and that after hardening of the resin-impregnated spacer fabric, but just before it has completely hardened, the outer wall is applied, for example sprayed on.
- a particular advantage of the invention can be seen in the simple and inexpensive production, since one and the same spacer fabric can be used for tanks with different diameters, with no adaptation work being required apart from a cut of the spacer fabric corresponding to the tank diameter.
- the tank has an inner wall 1, which is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic.
- This inner wall 1 is surrounded at a distance 2 by an outer wall 3, which is also made of glass fiber reinforced plastic.
- the space 4 lying between the inner and outer walls 1 and 3 represents a leak monitoring space which is formed by a resin-impregnated spacer fabric 5.
- the two fabric layers 6, 7 of the spacer fabric 5 are each firmly and inseparably connected to the inner or outer wall 1 or 3 adjacent to them. This is achieved in that each fabric layer 6, 7 is embedded in a resin layer applied to the respective wall 1 or 3.
- the fibers or threads connecting the two fabric layers 6, 7 to one another are stiff due to the resin impregnation of the spacer fabric 5 and are oriented approximately perpendicular to the fabric layers 6, 7.
- the fabric layers 6, 7 are fixed against each other and the inner wall 1 with the Outer wall 3 rigidly connected, although a gas and liquid permeable space 4 is present between the inner and outer walls 1 and 3.
- the wall thicknesses of the inner and outer walls can be greatly reduced without loss of strength compared to tanks according to the prior art, which in addition to saving concrete results in material and cost savings.
- the procedure for manufacturing the tank is as follows: First, the inner wall 1 is made from glass fiber reinforced plastic in a conventional manner. Even before the outer surface of the inner wall 1 has completely solidified, a layer of liquid resin, preferably unsaturated polyester, is applied to this and a spacer fabric 5 adapted to the geometric shape of the inner wall 1 is placed and pressed into this layer, so that the inner wall 1 faces Fabric layer 6 of the spacer fabric 5 is embedded in the resin layer.
- a layer of liquid resin preferably unsaturated polyester
- liquid chaff is applied to the outer fabric layer 7 of the spacer fabric 5.
- the liquid resin also impregnates the webs 8 connecting the fabric layers 6 and 7 by capillary action, as a result of which they align approximately at right angles to the fabric layers 6, 7 and form a cavity 4 between the fabric layers 6, 7.
- the outer wall 3 is applied, for example sprayed on if glass fiber-reinforced plastic is used.
- the spacer fabric is preferably formed from glass fibers; however, other materials can also be considered, e.g. Aramid fibers, carbon fibers or natural fibers.
- a reinforced concrete outer jacket is only to be provided in the tank according to the invention if the tank is subjected to additional loads, e.g. driving over motor vehicles etc. As protection against installation, the outside of the tank can be covered with cheap concrete.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a tank, in particular a spherical tank for storing oil, fuel or chemicals, with an inner wall and an outer wall surrounding it at a distance with the formation of a leak monitoring space, the inner wall and the outer wall being formed from glass-fiber reinforced plastic and the leak Monitoring space is formed by a resin-impregnated, hardened spacer fabric made of reinforcing fibers, one fabric layer of which is firmly connected to the inner wall and the other fabric layer of which is firmly connected to the outer wall, and the webs connecting its two fabric layers, forming a cavity that forms the leak monitoring space, generally at right angles are directed to the inner and outer wall, and a method for its production.
In the case of tanks, it is known to insert a porous mat between the inner and the outer wall to form the leak monitoring space, which can soak with the substance stored in the tank if a leak occurs (AT-B-339 589). From DE-A-26 58 971 it is known to provide an air-permeable intermediate layer, which is used for vacuum monitoring and is formed by a fleece.
In these known tanks, it is necessary to additionally provide a supporting concrete shell on the outside in order to absorb the forces acting on the tank from outside (earth pressure) despite the relatively thick walls that enclose the leak monitoring space and that can withstand the liquid pressure from outside and inside. This makes the tank significantly more expensive.
From US-A-4,993,581 a tank is known which has an inner wall and an outer wall surrounding the same, which is formed by a fabric glued to the inner wall. This fabric is impregnated with resin from the outside, the density of the fabric being chosen so that the resin does not penetrate it completely, but only over part of its thickness, so that an untreated and therefore untreated part of the outer wall and the inner wall flexible tissue is present, which absorb leakage can and their display enables. This known tank thus has a relatively stable outer shell, which, however, is connected to the inner wall via a relatively compliant fabric (namely its unimpregnated layer). This relatively compliant intermediate layer prevents an effective introduction of force from the outer to the inner wall or vice versa, so that the outer wall can contribute only relatively little to the stiffening of the tank. The untreated tissue can make almost no contribution to the force absorption.
Kies, oder aus vorgeformten Distanzkörpern besteht, die gegebenenfalls zusätzlich durch einen eingebetteten Draht oder eine aufkaschierte Glasmatte miteinander verbunden sein können.DE-A-26 58 111 describes a double-walled tank made of glass fiber reinforced plastic, a spacer layer being arranged between the two walls of the tank, which is made of granular material, e.g. Gravel, or consists of preformed spacers, which can optionally be connected to each other by an embedded wire or a laminated glass mat.
From EP-A-0 431 258 a tank is known in which the leak monitoring space is formed from a material which is capable of transmitting forces between the inner and outer wall and which is designed so that liquid in this material can flow. Specifically, felt or a honeycomb structure or plastic ribs or an extruded mesh or fabric with continuous passages is proposed for this. However, the use of a felt, if the felt is to be permeable to liquid, does not bring about sufficient power transmission from the inner to the outer shell or vice versa. The arrangement of honeycomb structures or plastic ribs on the outer surface of a spherical surface is complex and technically complicated, especially if one and the same structure forming the leak monitoring space is to be usable for tanks of different sizes.
Finally, a non-prepublished older EP-A-504 708 discloses a hollow plastic body, in particular a tank, in which, in one embodiment, a double-pole fabric is provided between an inner wall and an outer wall. The double pile fabric consists of an upper fabric, a lower fabric and pile threads extending transversely between them. Specifically, the wall in the form of a winding should consist of one or more strips of an uncut double pole fabric.
Such a double pile fabric can be compared to a spacer fabric of the type in question here. A spacer fabric consists of two fabric layers, which are connected to one another by webs, which are formed by threads of the fabric. These web threads keep the two layers of fabric at a distance.
The invention aims to avoid the disadvantages and difficulties of the known tanks and has as its object to create a tank of the type described in the introduction, in which a concrete layer to be provided for static reasons is not necessary. Furthermore, material savings should be achieved by reducing the wall thicknesses of the inner and outer walls, and simple and inexpensive manufacture of the tank should be possible.
This object is achieved in a tank of the type described at the outset in that the spacer fabric forming a sandwich laminate is designed as a load-bearing component and for this purpose is embedded with its fabric layers in the glass-fiber-reinforced plastic of the inner and outer walls.
In the present tank, the spacer fabric can be used to produce a sandwich laminate with very good physical properties in a simple manner by soaking the spacer fabric with resin, for example polyester resin, with either the resin application being metered precisely or resin being applied in excess and the excess Resin is then squeezed out. The spacer fabric is reshaped by the resin impregnation into a stable three-dimensional structure, the two fabric layers becoming rigid plates and the threads or fibers connecting the fabric layers being rigid and being approximately perpendicular to the plates Form extending webs that fix the fabric layers against each other. It is particularly advantageous that the spacer fabric can be deformed up to a certain minimum bending radius without folds, not only over a cylinder surface, but also over a spherical surface.
According to the invention, the part of the tank that is used to achieve the leak monitoring space is also used to absorb the force, i.e. designed as a load-bearing component. The sandwich construction formed in this way results in a substantial increase in the stability of the tank, so that there is no need for a supporting concrete outer shell. It is also possible to greatly reduce the wall thicknesses of the inner and outer shell without having to accept losses in stability or strength.
A particularly inexpensive embodiment is characterized in that the outer wall is sprayed onto the spacer fabric.
For tanks with a capacity of 4,000 to 16,000 liters, it has proven to be expedient if the webs connecting the two fabric layers of the spacer fabric have a height of 3 to 10 mm, in particular a height of about 5 mm.
A method for producing a tank according to the invention is characterized in that the inner wall is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic and liquid resin is applied to the outside of the inner wall before the outer surface of the inner wall has completely hardened, into which a spacer fabric adapted to the shape of the inner wall is applied embedded in the inner wall facing fabric layer, whereupon liquid resin is applied to the outside of the spacer fabric, and that after hardening of the resin-impregnated spacer fabric, but just before it has completely hardened, the outer wall is applied, for example sprayed on.
A particular advantage of the invention can be seen in the simple and inexpensive production, since one and the same spacer fabric can be used for tanks with different diameters, with no adaptation work being required apart from a cut of the spacer fabric corresponding to the tank diameter.

The tank has an inner wall 1, which is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic. The fibers or threads connecting the two
In the tank according to the invention, which is used in principle without a concrete outer jacket, the wall thicknesses of the inner and outer walls can be greatly reduced without loss of strength compared to tanks according to the prior art, which in addition to saving concrete results in material and cost savings.
The procedure for manufacturing the tank is as follows:

Subsequently, liquid chaff is applied to the outer fabric layer 7 of the
Just before the resin-impregnated
The spacer fabric is preferably formed from glass fibers; however, other materials can also be considered, e.g. Aramid fibers, carbon fibers or natural fibers.
A reinforced concrete outer jacket is only to be provided in the tank according to the invention if the tank is subjected to additional loads, e.g. driving over motor vehicles etc. As protection against installation, the outside of the tank can be covered with cheap concrete.
Claims (4)
- A tank, in particular a spherical tank for storing oil, fuel or chemicals, having an inner wall (1) and an outer wall (3) surrounding the former at a distance (2) under formation of a leakage-monitoring space (4), the inner wall (1) and the outer wall (3) being formed of a fiberglass-reinforced synthetic material, and the leakage-monitoring space (4) being formed by a resin-soaked, cured distance fabric (5) of reinforcing fibres, one fabric layer (6) thereof being firmly connected with the inner wall (1) and the other fabric layer (7) being firmly connected with the outer wall (3), whereas the webs (8) thereof which interconnect its two fabric layers (6, 7) under formation of a cavity (4) forming said leakage-monitoring space, are generally directed at right angles to the inner and outer walls (1, 3), characterised in that the distance fabric (5) forming a sandwich laminate is designed as a load-bearing member and for this reason is embedded with its fabric layers (6, 7) in the fiberglass-reinforced synthetic material of the inner and outer walls (1, 3).
- A tank according to claim 1, characterised in that the outer wall (3) is sprayed onto the distance fabric (5).
- A tank according to claim 1 or 2, characterised in that the webs (8) interconnecting the two fabric layers (6, 7) of the distance fabric (5) have a height of from 3 to 10 mm, in particular a height of 5 mm.
- A method of producing a tank according to any one of claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the inner wall (1) is produced of fiberglass-reinforced synthetic material and that, prior to complete curing of the outer surface of the inner wall (1), a liquid resin is applied to the outside surface of the inner wall (1), into which resin a distance fabric (5) adapted to the shape of the inner wall (1) is embedded with its fabric layer (6) that faces the inner wall (1), whereupon a liquid resin is applied to the outer side of the distance fabric (5), and that after hardening of the distance fabric (5) soaked in resin, yet slightly before its complete curing, the outer wall (3) is applied, e.g. sprayed, thereto.
