Abstract

An apparatus for the remote surveillance of rooms is described. The apparatus contains at least 2 videotelephone sets which are connected to a switch network. To circumvent problems entailed by an automatic analysis of the scenes to be monitored, it is proposed that at least one videotelephone set contains a) means (8,9,10) which are provided for checking a character combination transmitted from another videotelephone set via the switch network for access authorisation, b) means (6) which are provided for placing the videotelephone set into the position of automatically transmitting current data to another videotelephone set if its transmitted character combination has resulted in an access authorisation. <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a system for remote monitoring of rooms with at least two remote image devices that are connected to a dial-up network.

Remote image devices are to be understood here as receiving or transmitting devices which either have only one video camera or only one screen or both. In the latter case it is - if audio signals are also transmitted - video telephones.

Room surveillance systems in which video telephones connected to a dial-up network are used are known. For example, DE-A1-3827928 describes a video telephone that is suitable for room monitoring in conjunction with some additional circuits. These additional circuits include an image memory, with the aid of which the differences between successive images of the running camera of the video telephone set are checked. If the difference exceeds a predetermined level, an alarm signal is automatically issued. A monitoring station can also be called automatically in parallel via the dial-up network.

A not insignificant disadvantage of this and similar room surveillance systems can be seen in the fact that the alarm triggering is linked to the result of an automatic analysis of the scenes recorded by the camera of the video intercom.

Experience has shown that this scene analysis - in the example of DE-A1-3827928 the comparison of successive images - can a very high percentage (in some cases up to 90%) of false alarms. Such false alarms are e.g. B. triggered by not too slow changes in the lighting conditions in the room to be monitored. In days such. B. by changing the solar radiation, because suddenly the clouds open up, at night z. B. because the street lighting is switched off. Automatic scene analysis makes it very difficult to differentiate between a real danger and a harmless change. The case is particularly difficult if the scene to be supervised contains even moving images, such as. B. playing children or pets. For such cases, monitoring systems as described in DE-A1-3827928 are unusable.

The invention has for its object to provide a room surveillance system of the type mentioned, in which a scene analysis is omitted to detect a dangerous situation.

This object is achieved in that at least one remote image device
  • a) contains means which are provided for checking a combination of characters transmitted from another remote image device via the dial-up network for access authorization,
  • b) Contains means which are intended to enable the remote image device to automatically send current data to another remote image device, provided that the combination of characters transmitted has given access authorization.

One embodiment consists of the fact that at least one remote image device contains means which are intended to convert received character combinations into control pulses for the Implement the change in the position of his camera. The invention will now be explained in more detail with reference to the figure and an exemplary embodiment.

The figure shows schematically an intercom that is suitable for a system according to the invention.

The video telephone 1 shown in the figure is divided into two groups 2 and 3 of functional units. The functional unit 2 contains, as sub-units, all units which are required for a video telephone device according to the prior art, namely a camera 4, a monitor 5, a control unit 6 and a transmitting and receiving part 7. The operating devices for the video telephone device 1 are not entered , since such devices are of secondary importance for the invention. In the transmitting and receiving section 7, all functional units are summarized which are still important, among other things, for the special design of the video telephone, such as a data-reducing encoder, a corresponding decoder and a network access device for both transmission directions.

Die Gruppe 3 besteht aus zwei Speichern 8 und 10, einem Vergleicher 9 und einem Zeitglied 11.Group 3 of functional units is activated together with control unit 6 when the video telephone set is to be used for remote monitoring. Group 3 consists of two memories 8 and 10, a comparator 9 and a timer 11.

In the example, the dial-up network itself is an ISDN network in which, for example, the caller's number is transferred to the called party when a call is made. This fact - as will be explained in more detail below - is used for a check by the called subscriber.

To activate the remote monitoring, the video telephone 1 is switched to a "ready to test" state via the control panel (not shown). If it receives a call in this state, it changes to an “input” state, which begins with the setting of a timer 11 and ends when it expires. In the "input" state, the caller's number transmitted via the ISDN network is read into the memory 8. Separately, a further combination of numbers, which the caller has to enter on his device after the call number, is also stored in the memory 8. This combination of numbers is called the input number here. The input and telephone numbers are used to check whether the caller is authorized to access or not. After the timer 11 has elapsed, the test is carried out by the comparator 9, to which the two numbers are fed one after the other and which compares them with the numbers read by the controller 6 from the second memory 10. If one of the numbers received does not match the stored numbers, the video telephone 1 is reset to the "ready to test" state and the connection is released. Otherwise, the video telephone set 1 is put into a "send" state in which it transmits the images recorded by the camera 5 to the caller.

During the "send" state, the caller can also enter character combinations via his operating device, which are transmitted by the controller 6 as pulses to the camera 5 for changing their position. If the connection is triggered by the caller, the video telephone device 1 falls back into the "ready to test" state.

As can be seen from the previous description, z. B. the input and output of data from the functional units of group 3 controlled by the control unit 6.

Therefore, the control unit 6 must also have functions that are not available in a video telephone device according to the prior art. Since control units in message processing are generally implemented by programmable processors, the additional functions of control unit 6 are also implemented by a corresponding additional program. This additional program is activated via the control panel of the video telephone 1. Going through different states of the video telephone set 1 is equivalent to going through different program parts of this additional program. Such an additional program will be outlined below; this sketch is equivalent to a flow chart. As far as the sketch receives conditional instructions, these instructions are ignored if the condition is not met.
  • 1. Has the entry "Ready for inspection" been made? If no, jump to 1.
  • 2. Is the device called? If no, jump after 2. Start timer 11.
  • 3. Read the caller's number into a memory location in memory 8.
  • 4. Wait for a digit of the input number dialed by the caller. If such a number has been transmitted, read it into a second memory location in memory 8. Has the timer expired? If no, jump to 4.
  • 5. Read the number from memory 8 and transfer it to the first input of comparator 9. Read all the numbers stored in memory 10 one after the other and transmit them to the second input of the comparator 10. Check whether a signal value at the output of the comparator 9 has occurred during the reading of the numbers from the memory 10, which means agreement. If this is not the case, trigger the connection and jump to 1.
  • 6. Read the content of the second memory location in memory 8 and transfer it to the first input of comparator 9. Read all the numbers stored in memory 10 one after the other and transfer them to the second input of comparator 10. Check whether there is any reading during the reading the number from memory 10 once gave a signal value at the output of comparator 9, which means agreement. If this is not the case, trigger the connection and jump to 1.
  • 7. Transfer the pictures taken by the camera and check whether additional number combinations coming from the caller are received. If so, convert this into control data and transfer it to the camera.
