Definitions
- An anti-decubitus mattress is used to position a patient, especially an older patient, in such a way that no decubitus ulcers develop or that existing decubitus ulcers can heal.
- Known mattresses of this type are characterized by great softness.
- alternating pressure mattresses i.e. approx. 20 cm high mattresses, which are composed of two parts which are wedge-shaped in cross-section and which are individually inflatable and can be deflated. An approximately 12 - 15 cm thick, very soft mattress is then placed on such a mattress.
- alternating pressure mattresses have not only proven themselves because they are too high together with the additionally required mattress, but also because they do not adapt properly to those bed frames that have two hinges that extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the bed to form a head wedge and have a foot wedge, and because when emptying one of the mattress parts there is a risk that the patient will roll out of bed or onto the existing safety gate.
- a hospital bed with a cushion mattress and a swing drive arranged under this mattress is known.
- This swing drive is formed by two inflatable cushions extending over the entire length of the mattress, which are designed and arranged symmetrically to each other with respect to the central plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress, but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress, and can be alternately filled with air, thereby Lift the mattress once on one side and then on the other, thus changing the lying surface.
- a configuration of a lying surface cannot be combined with a modern bed frame use, i.e.
- the head wedge can be swiveled and on the other hand the section adjoining this is divided into two parts that can also be swiveled in such a way that the lying surface is raised as required in the area of the knees and, if necessary, the lower leg of the bed user leaves.
- the present invention now relates not to a multi-part hospital bed, but to a one-piece anti-decubitus mattress which has neither the disadvantages of the known mattresses nor the disadvantages of the hospital bed described above, but which has all the advantages necessary for prevention and treatment, including: make constant repositioning of the patient unnecessary. It is therefore a mattress with air cushions that are mirror images of each other with respect to the central plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress, taper towards the central plane and are connected to a pumping station in such a way that they inflate alternately and let it empty.
- the pumping station is expediently provided with a control unit, with which a pump cycle which can be selected quite broadly can be programmed, depending on the needs arising.
- the mattress shown has a base layer 1, which consists of an approximately 3 cm thick, solid foam.
- a base layer 1 On this base layer 1 there is an elastic frame layer, formed from two foam strips lying on top of one another, each about 15 cm wide and about 7-8 cm high, of which the lower one is designated 2 and has a similar strength to the base layer.
- the upper one labeled 3 Stripe is much softer. It is advisable if all these parts are glued together so that they always maintain their mutual position.
- the core lies between all of the above-mentioned components.
- the core of the anti-decubitus mattress also includes an insert made of soft foam, lying on all air cushions and tapering outwards from the center, i.e. from the location of the central plane 16, i.e. towards the longitudinal edges, which is designated 19 in the drawing and the surface of which runs parallel to the level of the foam base layer.
- the mattress surface is formed from a cover layer 20 which is very soft in relation to the mattress base layer 1, which extends over the entire top of the mattress and which is expediently connected to the frame layer at least at individual locations in such a way that the mattress forms a uniform whole.
- This mattress is also expediently protected, as is the case with ordinary mattresses, by a fabric cover 21, which of course has openings for the two hoses 14 and 15 leading to the pumping station 18.
- This pump station can be a pump used to generate air pressure, with the valves used to inflate and deflate the two air cushion groups 4, 6, 8 and 5, 7, 9.
- the pumping station will not have a pump, but only a connection piece to connect the pumping station to the compressed air network of the patient's room, and the control valves that connect lines 14 and 15 to the connecting pieces as required or connect the discharge opening or close it.

Abstract
Description
An anti-decubitus mattress is used to position a patient, especially an older patient, in such a way that no decubitus ulcers develop or that existing decubitus ulcers can heal. Known mattresses of this type are characterized by great softness. There are also so-called alternating pressure mattresses, i.e. approx. 20 cm high mattresses, which are composed of two parts which are wedge-shaped in cross-section and which are individually inflatable and can be deflated. An approximately 12 - 15 cm thick, very soft mattress is then placed on such a mattress. These alternating pressure mattresses have not only proven themselves because they are too high together with the additionally required mattress, but also because they do not adapt properly to those bed frames that have two hinges that extend transversely to the longitudinal direction of the bed to form a head wedge and have a foot wedge, and because when emptying one of the mattress parts there is a risk that the patient will roll out of bed or onto the existing safety gate.
Furthermore, from DE-A1-24 08 784 a hospital bed with a cushion mattress and a swing drive arranged under this mattress is known. This swing drive is formed by two inflatable cushions extending over the entire length of the mattress, which are designed and arranged symmetrically to each other with respect to the central plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress, but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress, and can be alternately filled with air, thereby Lift the mattress once on one side and then on the other, thus changing the lying surface. However, such a configuration of a lying surface cannot be combined with a modern bed frame use, i.e. a bed frame, on the one hand the head wedge can be swiveled and on the other hand the section adjoining this is divided into two parts that can also be swiveled in such a way that the lying surface is raised as required in the area of the knees and, if necessary, the lower leg of the bed user leaves.
The present invention now relates not to a multi-part hospital bed, but to a one-piece anti-decubitus mattress which has neither the disadvantages of the known mattresses nor the disadvantages of the hospital bed described above, but which has all the advantages necessary for prevention and treatment, including: make constant repositioning of the patient unnecessary. It is therefore a mattress with air cushions that are mirror images of each other with respect to the central plane running in the longitudinal direction of the mattress but perpendicular to the plane of the mattress, taper towards the central plane and are connected to a pumping station in such a way that they inflate alternately and let it empty. It is characterized by the fact that it consists of an elastic but firm foam base layer, a cover layer that is soft in relation to the base layer, an elastic frame layer arranged in between and a core that contains the air cushions and is located between all these components, the air cushions on the base layer being flat lie on both sides of the There are three cushions forming a group in the middle level, which in the air-filled state can be pivoted against each other by at least 90 ° and are connected to the pumping station in such a way that the cushions of one group can be inflated and deflated together, but independently of the cushions of the other group. Such a mattress can be designed such that it only has a maximum height of 26 cm when completely filled with air. The pumping station is expediently provided with a control unit, with which a pump cycle which can be selected quite broadly can be programmed, depending on the needs arising.

- of Figure 2, which shows a plan view of the mattress, but with the insert partially broken away and the top layer and
- FIG. 3 shows a perspective view of the anti-decubitus mattress.
The mattress shown has a
This mattress is also expediently protected, as is the case with ordinary mattresses, by a
