Abstract

The device serves for humidifying a moving substrate with a liquid, an atomiser for the liquid facing the front side of the substrate being present, as well as an electrical high-voltage source and a charging device for the directed conveying of the atomised liquid onto the substrate. In this arrangement, the support device has an electrically conductive circumferential continuous loop on its upper side and an electrically insulated circumferential continuous loop on its lower side, which loop faces the rear of the substrate and rests against the latter with its side and runs around it with a relative speed thereto of zero. Furthermore, the charging device also has a charging component for the upper side of the continuous loop. The charging can also occur in a contactless manner by corona charging.

Description

The invention relates to a device according to the preamble of the main claim.

Such a device is known (DE-OS 22 19 994). In this known device, an electrode is provided either at a short distance from the paper web or directly adjacent to it. Apart from the fact that this device is not suitable for high-speed paper webs and can lead to destruction of the paper web, a not inconsiderable abrasion on the surface of the electrode can also be expected. In addition, direct contact with high-speed paper webs cannot be guaranteed because of the air cushion that forms between the electrode and the web.

However, this known device is only moderately suitable for moistening when substrates with a higher pre-moisture or other conductivity have to be moistened, through which the conductivity of the substrate immediately rises, whereby the penetration of the electric field through the substrate to the conductive aerosol generator is prevented or even is completely prevented. As a result, the aerosols are no longer aligned with respect to the electrode.

The invention has for its object to provide a generic device according to the preamble of the main claim with always good and independent of the pre-moisture efficiency. This object is achieved according to the invention in a generic device according to the preamble of the main claim
that the electrode device is designed as an emitting charging device with at least one emission charging electrode (20).

The back of the substrate is hereby coated according to the invention even with a charge of the emitting charging electrode, so that the electric field forces act all the more on the atomizer from the charged substrate, so that the aerosols are prevented from vagabonding. As a result of the high potential difference between the charged substrate and the atomizer, the electric field strength was so high that the mirror image of the high voltage is generated by influence on the grounded metallic surface of the aerosol dispenser and the detached aerosols are charged with the opposite polarity of the charging electrode so that they are charged accelerated and aligned, which, in contrast to the known device, not only wets the surface of the substrate, but can also penetrate into the pores thereof.

Expedient refinements and developments of the invention are characterized in the subclaims.

An embodiment of the invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the drawing, which shows the invention in schematic cross section.

The device, designated overall by 5, serves to moisten a substrate 6 in the form of a circumferential web, preferably made of paper, which is moistened by means of an atomizer 7, designated as 8 small water droplets, namely aerosols.

For the purpose of improving the humidification, a charging device is present, which is connected to a voltage source, designated as a whole with 13, the other side of which is grounded.

The other side of the voltage source denoted by 13 is provided with four individual emission charging electrodes 20, each of which, however, can also be connected individually to a high-voltage source such that the potential can be regulated separately.

In this case, the charge that is emitted by the emission charging electrodes 20 is applied contactlessly to the back of the substrate.
