Definitions
- the invention relates to a connector assembly according to the preamble of claim 1 and the associated connector housing and the associated socket housing.
- the socket there is in particular thought of one which is fastened on a printed circuit board and receives a multiplicity of connecting pins fastened to the printed circuit board, which are arranged, for example, in two rows.
- a plug housing can be inserted into the socket housing, in which a corresponding number of socket contact elements is received, into each of which one of the connecting pins is inserted when the connector arrangement is plugged together.
- Such connector assemblies are used, for example, for motor vehicles, where they are often in poorly accessible places, for example on the back of a dashboard.
- the plug housing in the assembled state of the connector arrangement can often only protrude from the socket housing so slightly that it can be gripped too poorly to pull it out of the socket housing comfortably. It should be noted that due to the large number of contact elements, a considerable force may have to be released to release the connector arrangement.
- connection pins projecting freely over a large area of their length are therefore subject to the risk of bending if the plug is not pressed exactly into the socket housing.
- a connector arrangement is known, the connector housing of which completely plugs into the socket housing in the mated state, with adjacent side walls of the connector housing projecting post-like projections of the socket housing, at the upper ends of which an actuating pivot lever with a pinion area is arranged.
- the opposite side walls of the connector housing are each provided with a row of teeth at the level of the pinion area of the socket housing.
- the connector housing and the socket housing can be joined or separated by synchronously pivoting the two actuating pivot levers, which are independent of one another. A non-synchronous swiveling movement of both actuating swiveling levers can lead to tilting between the plug housing and the socket housing.
- the invention has for its object to provide a connector assembly of the type specified, which on the one hand allows the connector and socket connector to be moved exactly towards one another during the mating process and, on the other hand, enables the connector assembly to be easily detached even with a compact design and a small available space.
- a connector housing according to claim 18 and a socket housing according to claim 19 are suitable for a connector arrangement according to the invention.
- the rack arranged on the one housing becomes transverse to the plugging direction of the connector arrangement via the pinion region postponed.
- the cam projection arranged on the other housing is moved in the plugging direction from the inclined region of the link groove, which leads to a corresponding movement of the other housing in the plugging direction.
- the two housings are moved towards or away from one another in the plugging direction.
- the force required to plug and unplug the connector assembly can be greatly reduced due to the force transmission, which can be chosen as desired by the length of the actuating pivot lever and the transmission transmission between the pinion area and the rack. This is very important when you consider that a connector assembly according to the invention, for example, has two rows of 13 pins and socket contact elements.
- the plug housing is preferably lifted out of the socket housing by pivoting the actuating pivot lever from the closed position into the open position so that the plug contact elements and the socket contact elements of the two connector housings have completely separated from one another. If the connector housing is only inserted into the socket housing up to this insertion depth when the actuating pivot lever is in the open position, which can be achieved by noticeably locking both connector housings in this insertion position, the two connector housings are guided on the plug-in or pull-out path on which the plug-in contact elements and the socket contact elements are in engagement with one another exclusively via the mechanism according to the invention, so that any risk to the contact elements is excluded.
- FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal side view of a connector arrangement according to the invention with an elongated socket housing 11, which has an elongated plug receiving cavity, into which an elongated plug housing 13 is inserted.
- connection pins which are arranged in the socket housing and protrude into the connector receptacle cavity, and socket contact elements accommodated in the plug housing 13, which receive the connection pins.
- rack leg of an essentially U-shaped rack slide 15 Within the longitudinal side walls of the socket housing 11, but outside the plug receiving cavity, there is a rack leg of an essentially U-shaped rack slide 15, the teeth 17 of which engage the teeth of a pinion region 19 of a U-shaped actuating pivot lever 21.
- Each rack leg of the rack slide 15 has two link grooves 23 which extend in a plane running parallel to the plugging direction of the connector arrangement and are open on the side facing the plug housing 13. Viewed from this open end, each link groove 23 initially runs obliquely to the plugging direction over approximately one fifth of its total length, then obliquely to the plugging direction over approximately three fifths of its total length, and then transversely to the plugging direction over approximately the remaining fifth .
- Each rack leg of the rack slide 15 has on its lower longitudinal side two spring latch arms 25, which with latching projections in latching recesses 27 to the connector housing 13 facing bottom surface of the socket housing 11 resiliently snap, whereby the rack slide 15 can be locked in certain relative positions with respect to the socket housing 11, for example in the position permitting the insertion of the plug housing 13 or the position of the rack slide 15 holding the plug housing 13 in place.
- the socket housing 11 can be attached to a printed circuit or printed circuit board, the connecting pins being connected to individual conductor tracks of the printed circuit board.
- the rack slide valve 15 and the actuating pivot lever 21 are each shown in solid lines in a closed position and in dashed lines in an open position.
- the plug housing In the open position, in which the actuating pivot lever 21 is pivoted clockwise to the right until it hits the socket housing 11, the plug housing can be inserted between the legs of the U-shaped actuating pivot lever 21 into the receiving cavity of the socket housing 11 and are not shown in FIG. 1 shown cam projections 29 (Fig. 13 to 15) in alignment with the open end of the slotted grooves 23.
- the longitudinal side walls 33 of the socket housing 11 are provided on their upper side with a semicircular projection, in which there is a bearing opening 35 for the pivot bearing one each of two stub shafts 37 (FIGS. 11 and 12) of the actuating pivot lever 21.
- each longitudinal side wall of the socket housing 11 there are a lower rack leg guide 37, which is preferably formed by the inner bottom of the socket housing 11, an upper rack leg guide 39, which protrude into the receiving cavity 31 through recesses which are open towards the bottom Guide ribs 41 are formed.
- the end walls 43 and 45 of the socket housing 11 are provided with a U-shaped opening 47 or with slot-shaped openings 49, which correspond to the end face profile shown in FIG. 10 or the cross sections of the rack legs of the rack slide 15 and first of all pushing in and then moving allow the rack and pinion slide 15 in the socket housing 11.
- the rack and pinion slide 15 shown in FIGS. 8 to 10 is essentially U-shaped. Its longitudinal side rack legs 51 are provided with teeth 27 on their upper side. Each rack leg 51 has on both sides of the tooth area a link groove 23, the opening of which is located on the upper rack leg edge and has the shape already explained in connection with FIG. 1. In a preferred embodiment, the slot grooves 23 are embedded on the inside of the respective rack leg 51. Another possibility, which however leads to somewhat less mechanical stability of the rack and pinion slide 15, is to replace the link grooves 23 by cam control slots inserted into the rack legs 51.
- the spring latch arms 25 are formed in one piece from the rack legs 51 by latch arm slots 55.
- the two rack legs 51 are connected at one end to a rack slide web 57, which has a lower height than the rack legs 51.
- a bracket 57 connects two pivot lever legs 59, each of which is provided at its free ends with a pinion area 61, the pinion teeth 63 of which mesh with the teeth 27 of the rack slide 15.
- the distance between the two pivot lever legs 59 is such that the connector housing 13 has space between them.
- a stub shaft 37 projects outward from each pinion region 31, the axis of which coincides with the pinion axis.
- the bracket 57 has on its inside a locking recess 65 which interacts with a locking projection 67 (FIGS. 13, 14 and 16) on the connector housing 13 when the actuating pivot lever 21 is in the closed position.
- the connector housing 13 is shown in FIGS. 13 to 16.
- the connector housing 13 On its longitudinal side walls 69, the connector housing 13 has connector guide ribs 71 which, when the two connector housings are plugged together, cooperate with the guide grooves 73 formed between the guide ribs 41 of the socket housing 11 in order to guide the real movement between the two connector housings exactly in the plugging direction when they are plugged or pulled apart.
- There are two connector guide ribs on each side of the connector housing 13 71 is provided with a cam projection 29, each of which interacts with one of the link grooves 23 of the rack slide 15.
- the locking projection 67 of the connector housing 13 is resiliently designed so that it can be releasably locked into the locking recess 65 of the actuating pivot lever 21 when it is moved into its closed position.

Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a connector assembly according to the preamble of claim 1 and the associated connector housing and the associated socket housing.
In the case of the socket, there is in particular thought of one which is fastened on a printed circuit board and receives a multiplicity of connecting pins fastened to the printed circuit board, which are arranged, for example, in two rows. A plug housing can be inserted into the socket housing, in which a corresponding number of socket contact elements is received, into each of which one of the connecting pins is inserted when the connector arrangement is plugged together.
Such connector assemblies are used, for example, for motor vehicles, where they are often in poorly accessible places, for example on the back of a dashboard. For reasons of space, the plug housing in the assembled state of the connector arrangement can often only protrude from the socket housing so slightly that it can be gripped too poorly to pull it out of the socket housing comfortably. It should be noted that due to the large number of contact elements, a considerable force may have to be released to release the connector arrangement.
Lack of space also very often leads to the fact that the many connecting pins have to be arranged closely next to one another in a narrow space, which only allows the use of very fine connecting pins and very fine socket contact elements. The connection pins projecting freely over a large area of their length are therefore subject to the risk of bending if the plug is not pressed exactly into the socket housing.
From FR-A-2 385 239 a connector arrangement is known, the connector housing of which completely plugs into the socket housing in the mated state, with adjacent side walls of the connector housing projecting post-like projections of the socket housing, at the upper ends of which an actuating pivot lever with a pinion area is arranged. The opposite side walls of the connector housing are each provided with a row of teeth at the level of the pinion area of the socket housing. The connector housing and the socket housing can be joined or separated by synchronously pivoting the two actuating pivot levers, which are independent of one another. A non-synchronous swiveling movement of both actuating swiveling levers can lead to tilting between the plug housing and the socket housing.
The invention has for its object to provide a connector assembly of the type specified, which on the one hand allows the connector and socket connector to be moved exactly towards one another during the mating process and, on the other hand, enables the connector assembly to be easily detached even with a compact design and a small available space.
The solution to this problem is specified in claim 1 and can advantageously be developed according to claims 2 to 17.
A connector housing according to claim 18 and a socket housing according to
By pivoting the actuating pivot lever, the rack arranged on the one housing becomes transverse to the plugging direction of the connector arrangement via the pinion region postponed. The cam projection arranged on the other housing is moved in the plugging direction from the inclined region of the link groove, which leads to a corresponding movement of the other housing in the plugging direction. Depending on whether the actuating pivot lever is pivoted from the open position into the closed position or vice versa, the two housings are moved towards or away from one another in the plugging direction.
Even if the connector housing is almost completely immersed in the socket housing when the connector arrangement is connected, i.e. when the actuating pivot lever is pivoted in the closed position, there is no difficulty in detaching the connector arrangement again. For this purpose, only one actuating handle of the actuating pivot lever needs to be gripped and pivoted into the open position. The plug housing is largely pushed out of the socket housing as a result of the interaction of the cam projection and link groove and can then be gripped comfortably and completely removed.
As a result of the mechanism according to the invention, the force required to plug and unplug the connector assembly can be greatly reduced due to the force transmission, which can be chosen as desired by the length of the actuating pivot lever and the transmission transmission between the pinion area and the rack. This is very important when you consider that a connector assembly according to the invention, for example, has two rows of 13 pins and socket contact elements.
Due to the mechanism-guided plug-in and pull-apart movement of the connector housing, an insertion force which jeopardizes the connecting pins and the socket contact elements and is directed obliquely to the axes of the connecting pins and which can be inadvertently generated by the installer in conventional connector arrangements without the mechanism according to the invention is avoided. Guide grooves or guide ribs running parallel to the plug-in direction are preferably arranged on both housings, which force an exact relative guidance of the two connector housings in the plug-in direction.
The plug housing is preferably lifted out of the socket housing by pivoting the actuating pivot lever from the closed position into the open position so that the plug contact elements and the socket contact elements of the two connector housings have completely separated from one another.
