Abstract

This ski boot comprises a member for locking the upper in relation to the lower portion of the boot in the downhill running position, in the form of a rocker pivoted to a transverse axis in a cavity formed in the pivoted upper of the boot, and adapted to cooperate with a stop carried by the lower portion of the boot. The rocker can be released from the stop for straightening the skier's leg to a walking or non-skiing position by simply depressing the upper portion of the rocker. When the skier bends his leg the rocker is restored automatically to its locked position by a spring.

Description

The present invention relates to a ski boot consisting of at least one lower part comprising the upper and a rod articulated on this lower part, and comprising a recessed member and articulated around a horizontal axis, in a cutout of the back of the upper, this member being capable of occupying two positions, one in which its lower part abuts against a stop integral with the upper part of the shoe so as to lock the upper in a forward inclined position of the shoe, the other in which the upper is straightened and can oscillate slightly around this position. The locked position of the upper is used during skiing, when a tilted forward and relatively rigid position of the upper is advisable, while the unlocked position is used at rest, to put on the boot or for walking, with or without skis, the freedom of oscillation of the upper relative to the lower part of the shoe allowing the natural movement of the lower part of the leg relative to the foot.

Means making it possible to lock the rod in an inclined position or to release it have already been proposed, for example in patent CH 549970. These means consist of a slide fastened at its lower end to the lower part of the shoe and sliding in a slide fixed to the upper of the shoe, the connection of the slide in its slide being ensured by the two bent ends of an elastic stirrup pivotally mounted on the slide. Such a device is relatively complicated, heavy and bulky. In addition, the elastic stirrup may accidentally catch on.

There is also already known a very simple device consisting of a bar articulated at its upper end in a cutout of the upper and whose lower end abuts against a stop integral with the lower part of the shoe, when the bar is folded in the cutout. This bar is provided with a lug making it possible to raise the bar to release it from the stop, so as to allow the upper of the shoe to straighten. To move from the rest or walking position to the locked position, you must simultaneously bend your leg and push the bar back by hand into its housing, which is inconvenient.

The object of the present invention is to provide a device as simple as the above-mentioned device, but of more convenient use and not presenting a protruding lug.

In the ski boot according to the invention, the locking member is constituted by a rocker pivoted about an axis crossing the cutout of the upper in its middle part and associated with a spring tending to hold the lower part of the rocker against the shoe, the upper part of the rocker having the shape of a button to be pressed. It is thus possible to unlock the rod by a simple press on the key, while the locking is done automatically, under the effect of the spring, when the skier bends his leg to get into the descent position. The organ is also perfectly embedded, without protruding part.

The accompanying drawing shows, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention.
  • Fig. 1 shows a view of a shoe fitted with the locking device.
  • Fig. 2 shows a detailed view, rod seen in section, of the locking device in the locked position of the rod.
  • Fig. 3 shows a similar view in the unlocked position of the rod.

The ski boot shown in FIG. 1 is made of molded synthetic material. It is constituted in a manner known per se, of a lower part 1 comprising the sole and the upper and of a rod 2 articulated on the lower part 1 by means of two rivets 3, only one of which is visible in the drawing, the other rivet being located on the inner side of the rod. The upper edge 1a of part 1 is surrounded largely by the rod at the front and at the rear of this rod. To close it, the shoe is provided, in a known manner, with four loops 4. The back of the upper has a wide rib 5 extending from top to bottom of the upper, having a rectangular cutout in which is embedded a lock 6 constituted by a rocker mounted around an axis 7 constituted by a pin passing through the rib 5.

The cutout 8 in which the locking member 6 is embedded is visible in FIG. 2, in which the rib 5 is shown in section. The rocker 6 has an upper part 9, above its pivot axis 7, in the form of a key, the surface of which has a recess. The upper end of the key has a projecting edge 10 intended to abut against a valve 11 of the cutout 8 to limit the tilting of the rocker 6. Around the axis 7 is mounted a torsion spring 12, housed elsewhere in a lateral recess of the rocker 6, the end 12a of which rests in this recess and the other arm 12b of which has a bent end at a right angle which comes to bear against the internal face of the rod 2, on the edge of the cutout 8. This spring 12 tends to rotate the rocker 6 clockwise, that is to say to keep its end 10 in abutment against the flange 11. Opposite rocker 6, on the part 1 of the shoe, is fixed a stop 13 constituted by a metal piece bent at the square fixed by a rivet 14. This stop 13 is intended to retain the lower end of the rocker 6, as shown in fig. 2. The stop 13 more precisely abuts in a recess of the lower end of the rocker 6, so that its end is covered by the rocker and therefore invisible. Immediately above this recess, the rocker 6 has a transverse rib 15 in the form of a dihedral.

2.Starting from the advanced, lowering position, shown in fig. 2, when the skier, at rest, wishes to release the upper 2 from the boot, it suffices to press the key 9 as indicated by the arrow F in FIG. 3. The rocker 6 is then released from the stop 13 and the skier can straighten the leg, the rod 2 can then come into the position shown in FIG. 3. The hollow of the surface of the key 9 facilitates this actuation and even allows the end of a stick to be used. When the skier releases the pressure on the button 9, the inner face of the rocker 6 comes to rest against the end of the stop 13 on which it can slide if necessary if the rod 2 oscillates around the rivets 3. As soon as the skier resumes skiing, that is to say that he slightly bends his leg, the stop 13 slides under the upper ramp of the rib 13 by elastically pushing the rocker 6 which then falls back into the locked position as a stop shown in fig. 2.

The construction described is of course susceptible of numerous variants. For example, the stop 13 could be molded integrally with the part 1 of the shoe. On the other hand, the hunting horn spring 12 could be replaced by a spring working in compression between the button 9 and the part 1 of the shoe. Such a spring could itself be replaced by a piece of rubber.
