The mobility aid has an electronic control unit (2) providing functions for navigation and collision avoidance. It also has a human-machine interface (3) for interaction with the user. The control unit (2) has at least one function module (5,6,7) with an interface. The module is releasably connected to the control unit via the interface. The function environment of the control unit is determined by the function of the function module(s).
