Description
Die Medizinmänner der Eingeborenen wandten sie als Mittel gegen Wassersucht an.Process for obtaining the heart-active glucosides from Boviea volubilis Herbal preparations have been used for a long time to stimulate the heart, so z. B. those available from Digitalis purpurea, Convallaria majalis and other plants Glucosides. Through the exploration of Africa, the Boviea, which belongs to the Liliaceae, became volubilis as a powerful plant that occasionally gives rise to poisoning known. The indigenous medicine men used them as a remedy for dropsy at.
It has now been found on detailed examination of the plant that it contains substances that have a strong effect similar to digitalis glucosides exercise the heart. The efficiency of the onion exceeds that of the digitalis thirty times that of flowers, fifty to sixty times that of digitalis. This effect is caused by two different glucosides that are derived from the dried onions can be obtained using the following procedure.
Durch Extrahieren der reinen Droge im Sophlet mit Chloroform kann nur der chloroformlösliche Teil der Glucoside erhalten werden.i kg of heavily comminuted drug is mixed with i kg of ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate or ammonium chloride mixed thoroughly and four times in a row for 8 hours each time 2 kg each of ethyl acetate extracted in the cold in a stirrer. The combined extracts are evaporated in vacuo and the residue is repeated with anhydrous ether digested. The residue treated in this way is a crude glucoside mixture with a potency of around 2 million F.D. of spring frogs. This mixture of glucosides leaves by treating with chloroform into a chloroform-soluble portion with approximately 2.5 million F.D. and a chloroform-insoluble part with around 1.6 million F. D. disassemble. The part of the glucosides which is soluble in Chlorororm is precipitated after Drying the solution over sodium sulfate and subsequent concentration with petroleum ether with the addition of a little ether. Both glucosides that you get in a yield of each o, 17 g, give the same reactions according to Liebermann-Burchard and Keller-Kiliani. By extracting the pure drug in the sophlet with chloroform, only the chloroform-soluble can be made Part of the glucosides can be obtained.
