Abstract

The opener has a first member which slides onto and straddles the neck portion of the champagne bottle. A groove engages the circumferential rib on the neck. A second member is slidable onto the head of the cork. The first member is separated from the second member linearly and under leverage, so that the cork can be removed from and reinserted into the bottom easily and under control, without having to agitate the bottle. The device may be operated by one hand, as a single handle is journalled to both first and second members so that such rotation of the handle downward causes separation.
