Abstract

1. A system for detecting the presence of rail vehicles in predetermined track sections (1), more particularly in the case of shunting humps for measuring clear lenghts of track, the track sections (1) being divided in the system into a predetermined number of directly consecutive sub-sections (2), a receiving device (3) being disposed at the start of the track section (1), the start being determined by the direction of movement of the rail vehicles, and a receiver module (4) being disposed at the end of each sub-section (2), characterised in that the receiver modules (4) of the track section (1) are connected by a common line (5) to the receiver device (3), which is in the form of a digital track occupany meter (3), and are also effective as transmitters and, by means of an individual address, can be triggered digitally by the track occupany meter (3) to transmit a low-voltage a.c. of a defined frequency and to inject such a.c. consecutively into the track section (1) ; and the track occupany meter (3) scans at the start of the track section (1) the voltage injected by the discrete transceiver modules and repeats the result, associating it with the particular sub-section (2) concerned, to an evaluator (8), the result depending upon the presence of rail vehicle wheel sets (6, 7) electrically interconnecting the rails of the track section (1).
