Air-filled double-walled gastric balloons to reduce the stomach volume
are after A. E. Henning »Inn. Med. "6 (1979), 149 known. You run through
artificially reduced stomach volume leads to continuous weight reduction
if you have an appetite but a reduced feeling of hunger and premature satiety.
The disadvantage of these gastric balloons was based on the fact that up to now a complicated introduction
and extraction process was necessary: according to Willmen et al in Dtsch. med.
Wschr. 109 (1984), 1200 liquid-filled silicone balloons proposed according to
A. E. Hennig in "Klinikarzt" 14 1985 100 ff after local anesthesia of the throat or
under short anesthesia with an applicator inserted as a deflated balloon peronally into the stomach
can be. The empty balloon becomes through a complicated double probe system
introduced, filled and sealed and left free in the stomach after application.
The extraction is done endoscopically, after perforation with an endoscopic one
introduced hypodermic needle or opening with endoscopic scissors
Balloon is removed.
However, such methods lead to a significant burden
of the patient and require both in terms of application and in terms of
removal of the balloon endoscopic surgery, sometimes under general anesthesia. the
Invention has set itself the task, instead of the implantation of a series
Manufactured silicone balloons treat obesity with simpler means
and to do it in a simpler way.
herauspumpt. From EP 00 48 541 A1 a dispensing container for liquids is known,
with which liquid can be released through an osmotically induced pressure increase,
this container consists of a non-deformable semi-permeable outer sleeve
made from cellulose acetate butyrate and polymethylene methacrylate. Located in the container
a bag made of impermeable material with the liquid to be dispensed, whose
Bag opening is led out of the dispensing container. Located in the dispensing container
There is also an osmotic fluid that is released when the container is immersed in water
further water from the outside through the rigid, semi-permeable outer wall of the container
of the container and thereby a pressure on the one in the container
Exercises bag and thus the liquid contained in this pushes out or
pumps out.
This device cannot be used as a gastric balloon, as it is their
outer shape not changed.
In order to achieve the object of the invention, an intragastric
Proposed balloon according to the characterizing part of the main claim, preferred embodiments
are mentioned in the subclaims.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that a balloon from
an all-round closed or sealed envelope made of a semipermeable
Membrane or foil with a partial filling of a hyperosmolar or hygroscopic
Substance in an orally ingestible size and manufactured by the patient
can be swallowed and due to the chemical-osmotic processes only in the stomach
is brought to the intended size when the balloon and its contents are activated
Stage after osmosis has a minimum dimension of 50 mm.
It is essential that the semipermeable membrane of the balloon consists of a
in the physiological hydrochloric acid, pepsin-containing gastric environment for the residence time of
preferably at least 10 days resistant but degradable film. For this
cellulose triacetate films or corresponding acid-resistant derivatives can be used
be used. Other membrane materials can also be used, such as bacterial cellulose,
Polyvinyl alcohol, polyurethane, polyvinyl butyral and polytetrafluoroethylene, provided
they are compatible with the body and meet the osmometric requirements and afterwards
the desired residence time either through gastric juice or medication,
such as B. Administration of cellulosase are degradable. The permeability of such
semipermeable membranes can be adjusted in a manner known per se,
be it through the incorporation of higher fatty acids or through further esterification.
