Abstract

A collapsible core for the injection moulding of thermoplastic or thermosetting parts with threads or undercuts consists of a centre part with six tapering faces, three much wider than the other three. Each carries along the centre a dovetail groove. Six sliding parts which complement the centre to a cylinder have integral dovetail keys to engage the grooves. Three are shaped in cross-section like circular segments, and three like truncated cones. All segments have a bottom collar by which they are held by a ring against a base plate. The new collapsible core saves up to 30% in total costs and reduces the scrap output.
