Die Schaltschränke sind bei Personenzügen als geschlossene Schränke ausgebildet, da sie als kostengünstige Lösung im Hinblick auf die hohen Brandschutzanforderungen in Personenzügen gelten. Die Entwärmung oder Kühlung erfolgt über die Eigenkonvektion an der Schrankaußenwand. Es ist aber auch bekannt, Wärmetauscher und Kühlgeräte zu verwenden.
