Description

Drive control method and device for LED display screen
Technical Field
The invention relates to the technical field of display driving, in particular to a driving control method and device for an LED display screen.
Background
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) have long life, high brightness, and are waterproof and dustproof. With the progress of manufacturing processes, LEDs have been widely used in the field of screen displays in recent years. In practical applications, a large number of LED elements are arranged in an array in the backlight layer inside the display panel, and the LED elements are connected to the output pins of the driving chip. In order to save the number of chips, each LED driving chip usually has a plurality of output channels, i.e. one LED driving chip can independently control the brightness of a plurality of LED elements connected to its output pins. Because the brightness of the LED is related to the magnitude of the current flowing through the LED, when the LED is used, a user controls the magnitude of the current on each LED channel through a communication control interface provided by the LED driving chip, and further the brightness control is realized.
The communication control method of most display LED driving chips is described as follows. As shown in fig. 1, assuming that one LED driving chip controls 4 channels, the chip has 5 communication control pins. Wherein, 4 pins are enable pins and provide enable signals of different channels. The other 1 pin is a data pin and provides brightness data. Fig. 2 shows a topological relationship between an LED driving chip array and an LED element in the prior art. When the brightness of the LEDs in the array is adjusted, all the enabling pins of C1, C2 and the like are sequentially gated, and meanwhile, brightness data of the corresponding LEDs are input on all the data pins of D1, D2 and the like. For example, when the C1 is gated, the data pins D1, D2, D3 and the like are simultaneously input into the brightness data corresponding to the LED11, the LED12 and the LED13 respectively; when the C2 is gated, the data pins D1, D2, D3 and the like simultaneously input the brightness data corresponding to the LEDs 21, 22 and LED 23.
The communication control mode in the prior art only carries out the strategy of time division multiplexing on the data pins. For the channel enable pin, no multiplexing is performed. This results in excessive chip pins, which increases the manufacturing cost of the chip. In addition, the excessive chip pins pose a great challenge to the wiring of the integrated circuit and the integrity in the signal transmission process. The above problem is further aggravated when the number of output channels of the LED driving chip increases.

Detailed Description
In order to make the objects, technical solutions and advantages of the present invention more apparent, the present invention is further described in detail with reference to fig. 3 to 6.
First embodiment
Fig. 3 is a schematic diagram of an LED driving chip according to an embodiment of the invention. Fig. 4 is a schematic structural diagram of an LED driving mechanism composed of an array of LED driving chips according to an embodiment of the present invention. The invention is described below with reference to fig. 3-4.
As shown in fig. 3, in the present embodiment, each LED driving chip includes 4 output channels, which are respectively connected to 4 groups of LED elements. In the aspect of communication control, each LED driving chip only comprises an enabling pin C and a data pin D. The brightness of the LED elements on the 4 output channels is controlled by time-multiplexing the enable pin C and the data pin D, respectively.
The LED driving chips of this embodiment are used to form an LED driving chip array as shown in fig. 4, so as to adjust the LED brightness of the LED display device. When the brightness of the LED is adjusted, all the enabling pins of C1, C2, … … and the like are sequentially gated. Meanwhile, brightness data of 4 groups of LEDs are simultaneously and continuously input on all data pins D of D1, D2 and the like. Taking D1 as an example, when the C1 is gated, the D1 inputs 4 groups of data in sequence, corresponding to the brightness of the LED11, the LED21, the LED31 and the LED41 respectively. When the C2 is gated, the D1 inputs 4 groups of data in sequence, corresponding to the brightness of the LED51, the LED61, the LED71 and the LED81, respectively.
In this embodiment, in order to enable the enable pin C to be multiplexed, the enable pin C is only set to be one, so when a certain enable pin C is gated, the LED luminance data input through the data pin D needs to be further agreed by a communication protocol, so that the LED driving chip can decode the LED luminance data input through the data pin D, thereby completing correct luminance control of 4 groups of LED elements controlled by the LED driving chip.
As shown in fig. 5, in this embodiment, the communication protocol manner followed by the enable pin C and the data pin D is as follows: when the enable pin C of the LED driving chip inputs a clock signal, the LED driving chip is indicated to be gated; while luminance data is input through the data pin D. The luminance data includes 4 sets of data, each set having N bits. Taking the gate line C1 as an example, for the D1 data line, the first, second, third and fourth groups of data sequentially represent the brightness commands of the LED11, the LED21, the LED31 and the LED 41; meanwhile, brightness commands of the LED12, the LED22, the LED32 and the LED42 are synchronously transmitted on the D2 data line; the brightness commands of the LED13, the LED23, the LED33 and the LED43 are synchronously transmitted on the data line of the D3. And each gated LED driving chip synchronously samples data information on the data pin D according to clock input on the enabling pin C, so that four channel LED brightness instructions controlled by the gated LED driving chip are obtained in sequence. When the gating lines C1, C2, C3 and C4 … … are sequentially gated and the input of the LED brightness data is completed simultaneously, the progressive scanning of the brightness control of the LED display screen is completed. When a certain gate line is gated to be finished, namely the clock signal of the gate line is changed to be continuously low level, the gate line to be gated next row is specified not to input the clock signal for gating immediately, but the gate line to be gated next row is kept at the low level for a period of time t, the previous gate line and the next line are in a low level state during the period of time t, and the input data of the corresponding data line during the period of time t cannot be received by the LED driving chip. Alternatively, the data line input is low for time t. When the first rising edge in the clock signal of the gate line to be gated next comes, the data line starts inputting the LED luminance data. Through the arrangement, the LED brightness data input by the data line can be completely received by the chip every time.
The luminance of the light emitting LED device is positively correlated with the current flowing therethrough according to the characteristics thereof. Therefore, in the embodiment, the data pin D inputs the luminance data, which is substantially a current command, for configuring the target value of the constant current control on the driving port of the LED driving chip. There are many ways for the LED driving chip to realize constant current control, and the common way is to form a negative feedback loop by the operational amplifier and the driven MOSFET, so that the voltage value of the feedback terminal of the operational amplifier approaches the voltage value of the reference terminal. Because the voltage value of the feedback end is in direct proportion to the current on the LED lamp string, the current on the LED lamp string can be controlled by controlling the voltage of the reference end. Therefore, the constant current control command is substantially the magnitude of the reference terminal voltage of the operational amplifier.
Second embodiment
The LED driving chip and the driving array formed by the LED driving chip in this embodiment are the same as those in the first embodiment, and the difference between this embodiment and the first embodiment is that the communication protocol manner followed by the enable pin C and the data pin D is improved, as shown in fig. 6, the communication protocol manner followed by the enable pin C and the data pin D in this embodiment is: when the enable pin C of the LED driving chip inputs a high-level signal, the LED driving chip is indicated to be gated; while luminance data is input through the data pin D. The brightness data comprises 4 groups of brightness data and auxiliary clock data, each group of brightness data has N bits, and the auxiliary clock data is arranged in front of the brightness data and is used for determining the sampling clock frequency of the LED driving chip for the brightness data. And each gated LED driving chip samples data information on the data pin D by using the auxiliary clock frequency output by the data line according to the high-level input on the enabling pin C, so that four channels of LED brightness instructions controlled by the gated LED driving chip are obtained in sequence. When the gating lines C1, C2, C3 and C4 … … are sequentially gated and the input of the LED brightness data is completed simultaneously, the progressive scanning of the brightness control of the LED display screen is completed. When a certain gate line is gated, namely the gate line signal is changed into continuous low level, the gate line to be gated next row is specified not to input a high level signal for gating immediately, but the gate line to be gated next row is kept at the low level for a period of time t, the previous gate line and the next line are in a low level state during the period of time t, and the input data of the corresponding data line during the period of time t cannot be received by the LED driving chip. Alternatively, the data line input is low for time t. When the next row pulls high the gate line signal to be gated, the data line starts inputting the LED brightness data. Through the arrangement, the LED brightness data input by the data line can be completely received by the chip every time.
In this embodiment, each time data is transmitted from the data line to the LED driving chip, 2 periods of auxiliary clock signal data are first input to the LED driving chip, and the auxiliary clock signal is used to determine a sampling frequency of the LED driving chip for sampling the luminance data. Further, each bit in the luminance data is sequentially transmitted from the transmitting end on a rising clock edge and collected by the receiving end on a falling clock edge. Therefore, the receiving end needs to recover the clock signal before correctly collecting the luminance data. The recovery method is that before the brightness data is transmitted, the transmitting end sends several clock waveforms for brightness data transmission on the data line in advance, and the receiving end uses the built-in high-frequency clock to collect the waveforms. Because the clock waveform is described only by frequency and phase, the receiving end can acquire frequency information by calculating the interval of two continuous rising edges, and can acquire phase information by acquiring the positions of the rising edges and the falling edges. Accordingly, the receiving end can recover the clock signal of the data transmission.
In the present invention, the luminance data output by the LED driving chip is not limited to only control 4 groups of LED light emitting elements, and in the prior art, the LED driving chip in the integrated circuit of the LED display device is generally disposed at the center point of the square structure formed by 4 groups of LED light emitting elements, so for the convenience of wiring of the LED driving chip, the LED driving chip generally controls only the 4 groups of LED light emitting elements closest to the LED driving chip. According to the technology of the present invention, when the LED driving chip is used to control more groups of LED light emitting elements, it is only necessary to add the luminance control data of the corresponding LED element to the luminance data input on the data line and correspondingly extend the duration of the gate signal on the gate line.
The above description is only an embodiment of the present invention, and the protection scope of the present invention is not limited thereto, and any person skilled in the art should modify or replace the present invention within the technical specification of the present invention.
