Technical Field
The object of the invention is a feeding unit for feeding beads and an apparatus for manufacturing rods for the tobacco industry.
The invention relates to the feeding of spherical or ellipsoidal objects which are placed in rods which are tobacco industry products or semi-finished products of the tobacco industry. For the sake of simplicity, such objects are hereinafter referred to as beads. A known product on the market is a cigarette, the filter part of which is provided with beads containing aromatic or odorous substances. Such substances contained in the beads are released during smoking or by crushing the beads prior to ignition by pressing the filter. In the production process, the beads are placed in a continuous rod, which is cut into a plurality of rods, and said plurality of rods are cut into segments to be connected with other semi-finished products.
Background
One difficult and very important problem is: the individual beads are fed at high speed to the machine forming the filter house in a manner that ensures that the beads are not damaged and maintains a high feed efficiency, i.e. each manufactured filter rod actually comprises correctly placed beads.
In known bead feeders, tubes are used for feeding the beads to the following areas: from this region, the beads are transferred to a bead delivery wheel, and the function of the wheel is to place the delivered beads into the filter material, between the fibers of the filter material, or between segments of filter material or other material.
Us patent 7,975,877B2 discloses a bead feeder wherein a bead feed unit is provided with a plurality of tubes radially connected to a cylindrical drum with which the tubes rotate and beads are picked up by a bead transfer wheel by means of vacuum from a pocket at the exit of the tube and then transferred to a bead delivery wheel.
Document WO 2009/071271 discloses a bead feeder in which a bead feeding unit is provided with a passage rotating with a drum, feeding beads to a bead delivery wheel after separating the lowermost bead from the beads located above it using a fixed arc-shaped wedge-shaped end element.
Document WO 2009/071272 discloses a similar bead feeder in which beads are fed to a bead delivery wheel using two plates having a plurality of openings and rotating relative to each other, and the beads are fed after aligning the respective openings to lie directly on top of each other.
Patent EP2617302B1 discloses a solution in which the beads are fed through a feed channel to a holding pocket (pocket) and, after being pushed out of the pocket by means of a cam, are further transferred to a feed wheel.

Detailed Description
The exemplary filter rod R shown in cross-section in fig. 1 comprises four objects in the form of beads C located in the fibers F of the filter material. The bead C is placed along the axis k of the filter rod R and is centered with respect to this axis k. Fig. 2 shows a filter rod R' comprising segments S1, S2 and beads C placed in the spaces between the segments. The filter rod R "shown in fig. 3 comprises segments S1, S2 and two beads C1 and C2 alternately located in successive spaces between the segments.
Fig. 5 shows a device 1 for manufacturing bars R from a continuous material web 2 in a first embodiment. The material web 2, which comprises acetate fibres fed from the material bale 3, may alternatively be made of a different filling material in the form of tobacco, cellulose foil, paper or fibres with filtering properties (both smooth and corrugated). The apparatus 1 for manufacturing the rods R is provided with a feeding unit 4 for feeding material 2, typically filling material, wherein the strip of material 2 is processed. The apparatus 1 comprises a feeding unit 5 arranged to feed the beads C, a forming unit 6 and a cutting head 7. During manufacture, a bead C of a substantially spherical object is placed in the material band, said bead C being intended to be located inside the continuous rod CR after it has been formed in the forming unit 6, and inside the single rod R after this continuous rod has been cut by the cutting head 7. The apparatus 1 comprises: a guide unit 8 for the material web guidance and preliminary material compression; a compression unit 9 for the compression of the band and the forming of the continuous rod CR. In the molding process, the continuous rod CR is wrapped by the wrapping material P fed by the wrapping material feeding unit 10. The apparatus 1 is provided with a forming unit 12 for final forming and gluing lengthwise the continuous rod CR. The guide unit 8, the compression unit 9 and the forming unit 12 together constitute a forming apparatus for forming the continuous rod CR.
Fig. 6 shows a feeding device 5 comprising a feeding wheel 20 and five feeding units 21 which feed the beads C to a transport groove cavity 22 located on a circumferential surface 23 of the feeding wheel 20. The number of feed units depends on the number of beads to be placed in the continuous bar CR. As shown in fig. 7, the feeding unit 21 includes: a feed channel 24, a pushing mechanism 25 and a transfer wheel 26 with an axis of rotation m. The pushing mechanism 25 comprises a body 27, which in the embodiment shown has the shape of a cylinder. In the main body 27, on its side surface 28, there are positioned a holding groove cavity 29 and a transfer channel 30 extending from the holding groove cavity 29 toward the transfer wheel 26. The transfer channel 30 is positioned diagonally to the generator of the body 27 and tangential to the transfer wheel 26, and the transfer channel 30 is oriented in correspondence with the direction of rotation (marked with an arrow) of the transfer wheel 26. The pushing mechanism 25 comprises a movable pushing element 31 having a pushing edge 32. The pushing element 31 has the form of a plate, which may be flat or may be shaped as a section of a cylindrical surface. The pushing element 31 is rotatably mounted so as to rotate about an axis n, and the pushing element 31 moves in a groove 33 formed in the body 27, which is also shown in fig. 8 and 9. The axis of rotation n of the pushing element 31 may overlap the axis of rotation m of the transfer wheel 26. The pushing element 31 moves with a speed v 1. As shown in fig. 7, the rotation of the pushing element 31 causes the pushing edge 32 to pass through the holding slot cavity 29 and the transfer channel 30. The beads C fed from the feed channel 24 fall into the retaining groove cavities 29. The movement of the pushing element 31 causes the pushing edge 32 to push the beads C out of the holding pocket 29, causing them to be pushed towards the transfer wheel 26 through the transfer channel 30 to the transfer pocket 34. The pushing element 31 is rotated, thereby causing the transfer of the beads C from the holding reservoir 29 to the transfer reservoir 34 through the transfer channel 30. The transfer wheel 26 may be provided with two transfer pocket cavities 34 and the pushing mechanism 25 may be provided with two pushing elements 31. There may also be a greater number of transfer pocket cavities 34 and pusher elements 31. The transfer slot chamber 34 moves at a velocity v2, and the velocity v2 may be equal to the velocity v 1. The velocity v1 may be temporarily greater than the velocity v2 as the beads C are pushed out of the holding pocket 29 and transfer channel 30, with the result that the time taken to transfer the beads C to the transfer pocket 34 is shortened.
While the bead C is transferred down to the transport trough cavity 22, it moves in the transfer trough cavity 34 on a circular path of a guide channel 42 formed by the surfaces 35 and 36, the ring 40 and the outer guide 41 (channel 42 is shown in cross-section in fig. 8; guide 41 is not shown in fig. 7 and ring 40 is shown in broken lines). On the circumferential surface 37 of the transfer wheel 26 there is a groove 38 which likewise passes through the transfer slot chamber 34. At the lower part of the transfer wheel 26, a scraper 39 in the form of a flat element is positioned, inserted into the groove 38, the function of the scraper 39 being to push the beads C out of the transfer pocket 34 and to the transport pocket 22 of the feed wheel 20.
In the feeding unit 5 in fig. 6, in the first feeding unit 21 and the third feeding unit 21 ", the transfer wheel 26 is located in a position before feeding the beads C from the transfer pocket 34 to the transport pocket 22 of the feeding wheel 20. In the second and fourth feeding units 21', 21 "', the transfer wheel 26 is located in a position after feeding the beads C from the transfer wheel 34 to the transport pockets 22 of the feeding wheel 20. In the fifth feeding unit 21', the transfer wheel 26 is located in a position just after feeding the beads C to the transfer chamber 34. During the rotation of the feed wheel 20, successive transport pockets 22 are filled with beads C, so as to fill all the pockets 22 of the feed wheel 20. The scrapers 39 can assume different positions for the respective feed units 21 and the length of the outer guide 41 has to be selected accordingly. One or different kinds of beads C may be fed to the corresponding feeding unit 21. In the event that it is desired to manufacture rods comprising unevenly spaced beads, the transport pods 22 must be unevenly spaced about the circumference of the feed wheel 20. The feed units 21 may be spaced at uneven intervals around the feed wheel 20.
Fig. 10 shows a feed unit in which the main body 27' has a smaller diameter than the transfer wheel 26. The pushing element 31 'in the pushing mechanism 25' has a rotation axis n which is parallel to the rotation axis m of the transfer wheel 26 and offset with respect to the rotation axis m of the transfer wheel 26.
In a second embodiment, shown in fig. 11, a rod making apparatus 1' is provided with a unit 4' for feeding filling material in the form of segments S1, S2, the rod R ' shown in fig. 2 being made of segments S1, S2. The segments S1, S2 may be segments made of filter material or any other material. The segments S1, S2 are fed by the feeding modules 51, 52 and transferred to the forming unit 6' by means of the transfer module 53. The apparatus 1' is provided with a feeding unit 5 configured similarly to the first embodiment. The apparatus 1' according to the second embodiment can be used to manufacture rods R "as shown in figure 3, if two different kinds of beads C1, C2 are fed alternately to the successive feeding unit 21.
In a third embodiment, shown in fig. 12, the rod making apparatus 1 "is provided with a unit 4' for feeding filling material in the form of segments S1, S2, similar to the second embodiment. The apparatus 1 "is provided with two feeding units 5', 5", feeding two different kinds of beads C1, C2, and it can be used to make rods in which the beads C1, C2 are alternately placed in successive spaces between the segments S1, S2, as shown in fig. 3. Furthermore, the device 1 "may be used to manufacture a rod as shown in fig. 4, wherein two beads C1, C2 are located in one space between the segments S1, S2. The first feeding unit 5' may feed the first beads C1, and the second feeding unit 5 ″ may feed the second beads C2.
