Description
Technical field
The present invention relates generally to wireless communication system.More specifically, the present invention relates to can be through the power management in the aggregated wireless transmitter/receiver unit (WTRU) of multiple radio access technologies (RAT) operation.
Background technology
Polymerization WTRU is can be via the mobile device of multiple radio access technologies (RAT) communication.Polymerization WTRU provides abundant service, comprises voice, the mobile access to Email and personal information, website browsing, Voice & Video playback and flow transmission, recreation etc.Yet, need a lot of electric weight via the communication of multiple RAT, thereby cause exhausting fast of polymerization WTRU battery.
In polymerization WTRU, need polymerization WTRU so that each sends and receives among the multiple RAT via the communication of multiple RAT.In order further to address this problem, polymerization WTRU can have many RF chain, perhaps can communicate via many RAT simultaneously.Because polymerization WTRU is portable set normally, so do not expect through increasing the demand that battery sizes satisfies electric weight. Therefore, expectation minimization consumption of electric in polymerization WTRU.
In all component in polymerization WTRU, transceiver consumes maximum electric weight usually. Therefore, the plain mode of preserving electric weight is when not needing transceiver, it to be closed or reduce its activity. This can realize through WTRU being placed resting state or discontinuous reception (DRX) pattern.Different radio access technologies (RAT) has their electricity-saving mechanism, and generally all considers above-mentioned two states (sometimes use with below different terms).
First state is a wake-up states, and the radio of WTRU is opened at that time.Under this state, WTRU can send or receive data energetically, and perhaps WTRU can be in battery saving mode, and it produces the traffic in order to monitoring radio, and if desired, its active that switches to data is fast sent and received.Second state is a resting state, and the radio of WTRU is periodically closed at that time. The WTRU intermittence is waken up with from network receiving information, for example the beacon in IEEE802.11RAT, the pilot channel (PCH) in third generation partner program (3GPP) RAT etc.Network terminal can be preserved the grouping that is positioned to dormancy WTRU in buffer, and when WTRU is in wake-up states, sends these groupings.
It should be noted that the RAT agreement has defined required and optional powder source management mode for given technology. In order to illustrate, in wireless lan (wlan), in order to reduce the battery consumption of radio customer machine, client radio will replace between two states, comprise: (1) state of activation, and radio customer machine sustained activation property ground sends and receives therebetween; This state takes place during dormancy at radio customer machine in (2) power down mode off and on.
WLAN access point in the base frame network is followed the tracks of the state of each related WTRU.These access points will be directed to the traffic buffer memory of the WTRU that is in resting state. With regular time at interval, AP will send TIM (traffic indication map) frame, which dormancy WTRU buffer memory of its indication in the traffic of access point wait. The WTRU that is in resting state will intermittently start its receiver, and receive TIM.If WTRU has the traffic of wait, then it will send packet switching (PS) poll frame to AP.WTRU will wait for the traffic, be received until it, and perhaps AP will send another TIM frame that does not have the traffic of buffer memory in order to indication.
In global mobile communication system (UMTS) technology, WTRU can be in any of two basic status: idle condition or connection status.Under idle condition, WTRU just " is in the sub-district ".Yet WTRU still can receive signaling information, for example paging.WTRU will wait under idle condition, connect until setting up radio resource controller (RRC).In UMTS, define various connection status patterns; Comprise cell private channel (CELL_DCH), cell forward access channel (CELL_FACH), cell paging channel (CELL_PCH) and UMTS terrestrial radio access network (UTRAN) registration zone PCH (URA_PCH), wherein each pattern has variable amplitude communication function and power saving effect.
Other access technology has they oneself power management states and pattern separately.Above-mentioned WLAN and UMT electric source modes only are exemplary, do not represent limitation of the scope of the invention, arbitrary radio access technologies that it can be applicable to expect.
With reference to Fig. 1, at the polymerization WTRU110 of prior art shown in many RAT wireless environment 100.Each RAT (RAT

Each RAT battery management unit 240 of polymerization WTRU210 is regulated in CMRBM unit 220
1, 240
2... 240
NIn order to realize this operation, preferably use three kinds of generic power states by CMRBM unit 220.First power supply status is a wake-up states.Under wake-up states, polymerization WTRU210 sends and/or receives data on one's own initiative. The CMRBM wake-up states is similar to above-mentioned WLAN state of activation and UMTS connection status. The second source state is a resting state.Under resting state, RAT moves to reduce functional mode with the minimizing electrical source consumption, typically only periodically opens.Sleep power state is similar to above-mentioned UMTS idle condition. The 3rd power supply status is a closed condition.Down, RAT is fully closed power supply in off position, and does not periodically send or received communication.
With reference to Fig. 3, illustrate by CMRBM unit 220 employed state machines 300 in order to the polymerization WTRU210 of Fig. 2 of control RAT battery management unit.In 310, close given RAT processing unit fully in off position. In opening 320, start given RAT processing unit, and the RAT processing unit is that part can be moved at least.Starting state 320 also comprises awakening mode 330 and park mode 340.Awakening mode 330 times, the RAT processing unit can move fully, and even can send data to network with activating or receive data from network.Park mode 340 times, the RAT processing unit moves to reduce functional mode.Typically, park mode 340 times, as stated, the RAT processing unit is closed its transceiver with periodicity, and reduces the control messages transmission.
It should be noted that CMRBM unit 220 power supply statuss are the general power supply statuss that when regulating many RAT battery management, use.The given multiple sub-state of RAT agreement definable or the pattern of given CMRBM power supply status. For example, the state of activation in the UMTS access technology comprises at least four sub-state (URA_PCH, CELL_DCH, CELL_PCH and CELL_FACH as stated)., finally confirm by the RAT battery management unit during 220 normal regulating battery managements in the CMRBM unit by the selected specific sub-state of RAT battery management unit according to its RAT agreement separately. This is not limited to awakening mode 330, and comprises CMRBM park mode 340, and for specific various other power management details of each RAT agreement.
Still with reference to Fig. 3, the state that is illustrated by the broken lines changes. The RAT battery management unit can change request through accepting state and change into opening 320 from closed condition 310, and vice versa. When opening, the RAT battery management unit can change request mode through state and between awakening mode 330 and park mode 340, select.Replacedly, the RAT battery management unit can RAT agreement and battery management structure unilaterally change its state or pattern separately based on it.
Refer again to Fig. 2, CMRBM unit 220 is preferably through the detailed transmission message primitive of the instance in the following table 1 and each RAT battery management unit 240 of polymerization WTRU210

NCommunication. Also can use other primitive, and the primitive of following discussion can comprise as required except clear other additional information element of quoting in specification.
Table 1
Primitive | Direction | Describe |
State changes request | CMRBM unit → RAT battery management unit | CMRBM unit requests RAT battery management unit changes power supply status. It should be noted, wait until this request of RAT battery management unit execution at last. For example, in UMTS RAT, WTRU can not get into resting state automatically; This is the decision of network. If there is sub-state, then also represent this sub-state. |
State changes indication | CMRBM unit ← RAT battery management unit | Whether its state of RAT battery management unit indication changes. It can be the result who changes request from the state of CMRBM unit that this state changes, and is perhaps changed by the auto state that the RAT battery management unit starts based on the RAT agreement. This new state of indication in message. |
The state information request | CMRBM unit ← RAT battery management unit | Before the RAT battery management unit gets into new state automatically, the affirmation that it changes from CMRBM unit requests state. In this message, indicate new state. |
State information response | CMRBM unit → RAT battery management unit | In response to the state information request, the state that the CMRBM unit is confirmed through indication responds. It should be noted that the RAT battery management unit is depended in the end-state decision. The RAT battery management unit preferably changes expression message informing CMRBM through state |

Opening request | CMRBM unit → RAT battery management unit | This order makes the CMRBM unit open the RAT battery management unit, and opens the RAT processing unit subsequently. |
Turn-off request | CMRBM unit → RAT battery management unit | This order makes the CMRBM unit close the RAT battery management unit, and closes the RAT processing unit subsequently. |
Configuration report | CMRBM unit ← RAT battery management unit | The RAT battery management unit provides the internal configurations parameter relevant with its current power supply status to the CMRBM unit. |

2... 240
NAnd various signals of RAT and link metric (step 410).Based on this monitoring, CMRBM unit 220 determines whether that expectation is carried out the state change to arbitrary RAT battery management unit or pattern changes (step 420).Should confirm can be based on the arbitrary principle in order to the battery supply that minimizes polymerization WTRU220.For example, when there not being (RAT for example for given RAT
1) during available network, expectation is with corresponding RAT battery management unit 230
1With RAT processing unit 240
1Place " shut " mode", to preserve energy.Equally, available if network becomes, RAT battery management unit 230 then then
1With RAT processing unit 240
1Can place opening.Replacedly, when polymerization WTRU210 sensed low power level, predetermined RAT processing unit can be enduringly or periodically is placed in " shut " mode", to preserve the energy content of battery.
Replacedly, the configurable CMRBM of the user of polymerization WTRU210 unit 220 is to regulate electric source modes and state as required.Replacedly; CMRBM unit 220 can ask the state of RAT battery management unit 230 to change into awakening mode from park mode; Perhaps when being about to switch to this RAT; It changes into park mode based on its power management protocol refusal RAT battery management unit 230 separately, below will more describe in detail with reference to Fig. 6.CMRBM link quality metric capable of using changes with the state that influences arbitrary RAT.For example, when WTRU210 is connected to a plurality of RAT, and better in these RAT uplink quality, then can to ask RAT to change its state be park mode to CMRBM, or carry out inverse operation.
In step 420, need to confirm under the situation of state change or pattern change in CMRBM unit 220, CMRBM unit 220 request RAT battery management units 230 carry out the state change or pattern changes (step 430).Preferably, CMRBM unit 220 uses the primitives state of definition in above-mentioned table 1 to change.Particularly, CMRBM unit 220 sends " the RAT battery management unit 230 of state change request information to quilt request change state or pattern. When the state that receives changes request, it will meet this request to RAT battery management unit 230 based on its RAT specific protocol indication, and preferably send " state changes indication " message to confirm its current state (step 440).
It should be noted; When specific RAT change pattern (for example from awakening mode to park mode, or opposite) time, typically; This pattern of informing network changes or state changes; Thereby can carry out buffer-stored to the communication that is positioned to polymerization WTRU210 through network, as stated, perhaps owing to other reason.Utilization is with the RAT specific protocol of electric source modes and Network Synchronization, to realize and should handle.
If in step 420, CMRBM unit 220 not expectation state changes, and confirms then whether expectation state changes (step 450) to arbitrary RAT battery management unit 230.RAT battery management unit 230 can be made the independent judgment about this state based on the RAT specific protocol. If there are not RAT battery management unit 230 expectation states to change, then this method is returned step 410 with further monitoring. If RAT battery management unit 230 expectation states change, then 230 requests of RAT battery management unit are from the permission (step 460) for the state change of CMRBM unit 220.Preferably, like the description in the above-mentioned table 1, this request is " state information request " primitive. When the state that receives changed request, CMRBM unit 220 determined whether that the allowance state changes request, and correspondingly signals the RAT battery management unit 230 (step 470) of this request.Preferably, CMRBM unit 220 uses the RAT battery management unit 230 of signaling this request like " state information response " message in the above-mentioned table 1.It should be noted that CMRBM unit 220 can permit or disapprove the state of being asked changing, and the RAT battery management unit 230 of request can change by the continuation state, and do not consider permission or the refusal that permit CMRBM unit 220.
In another embodiment, with reference to Fig. 5, illustrate and use the flow chart 500 of configuration report in order to the method for the many RAT battery management among the adjusting polymerization WTRU210.When polymerization WTRU210 opens (step 510), each RAT battery management unit 230 notice CMRBM unit 220 its battery management configuration (step 520) separately.Preferably, RAT battery management unit 230 sends " configuration report " message that defines as in the above-mentioned table 1 to CMRBM unit 220.It should be noted, typically, come the regulation initial battery management configuration by specific RAT agreement.Next, CMRBM unit 220 compiling this report, and need to determine whether the arbitrary RAT battery management unit 230 of request to carry out the state change, thus minimize energy consumption (step 530).If CMRBM unit 210 do not need to confirm state to change (that is, the current state operation with optimum power configuration of polymerization WTRU210), then this method advances to step 550.If on the other hand, CMRBM unit 220 confirms that expectation state changes (that is, polymerization WTRU210 can more effectively dispose), and then CMRBM unit 220 request RAT battery management units 230 carry out state and change (step 540).Preferably, this request is in the form like above-mentioned table 1 defined " configuring request " message. Then, the RAT battery management unit 230 of request change state can change according to himself specific RAT agreement state that determines whether to carry out.In next configuration report, will be by the selected state of RAT battery management unit 230 indications.Alternatively, each periodically repeated configuration report (step 550) of RAT battery management unit 230.This periodic report can be carried out with Fixed Time Interval, perhaps can dynamically adjust based on user's control or CMRBM unit 220.
Except with reference to Fig. 4 and the described method of Fig. 5, RAT battery management unit 230 complete powered-downs can be asked in CMRBM unit 220, thereby close its RAT processing unit 240 separately.Preferably, realize this processing through sending like above-mentioned table 1 defined " turn-off request " message.Likewise, RAT battery management unit 230 unlatchings of power down state can be asked to be in CMRBM unit 220.Preferably, realize this processing through sending like above-mentioned table 1 defined " opening request " message.Polymerization WTRU210 can supply power to RAT battery management unit 230, thereby RAT processing unit 240 is opened under various situation or closed accordingly, to preserve electric weight. For example, under the situation of the network that does not have scanning, when power supply is lower than predetermined threshold, perhaps when the user when scheduled volume does not use specific RAT network in the time, RAT battery management unit 230 and corresponding RAT processing unit 240 can be closed in CMRBM unit 220.
In another embodiment, CMRBM unit 220 is provided at the various access techniques to effective power management of polymerization WTRU210 between the transfer period between the RAT.In this embodiment, with reference to Fig. 6, the switchover policy function operation between the RAT of CMRBM unit 220 combination polymerization WTRU210 is to improve the execution of the switching between the RAT through the minimizing switching delay.220 monitoring of CMRBM unit each RAT battery management unit 230 and RAT signal quality and power management metrics (step 610) of polymerization WTRU210.Based on the handover measurement between the RAT of polymerization WTRU210, determine whether to expect the switching (step 620) between the RAT.For example, can expect from RAT network switch active session to having strong or improving the RAT network of link-quality with lower or link-quality of reducing. When in step 620, confirming that expectation is switched, confirm then whether target RAT processing unit 240 is in wake-up states (step 630).If target RAT processing unit is not in wake-up states, then target RAT battery management unit 230 is signaled in CMRBM unit 220, so that target RAT processing unit 240 is placed suitable wake-up states, to be used for switching (step 640).This can be through realizing (being each RAT signalisation or configuration report) with reference to the said method of Fig. 4 and Fig. 5.Then, target RAT processing unit is in wake-up states, and polymerization WTRU210 carries out the switching (step 650) between the RAT.At last, each the RAT battery management unit 230 in polymerization WTRU210 is signaled in CMRBM unit 220, thereby realizes minimal power consumption configuration (step 660).
For example, when using a RAT processing unit 240
1When polymerization WTRU210 is in state of activation, but sensing link-quality, CMRBM unit 220 reduces (i.e. the preassigned that indication is switched), then CMRBM unit 220 requests the 2nd RAT battery management unit 230
