技术领域

背景技术
图1是有源矩阵发光二极管(AMLED)显示器传统像素100的示意图。像素100包括发光二极管(LED)105(例如,有机LED或其他类型的LED),列驱动器108,行驱动器110和115(每一个都耦合到地端),电压源120和125(每一个都耦合到地端),电容器130,以及开关142,144,146和148(例如,半导体开关)。

既然每一对行驱动器一次一行地点亮各自行中的像素100,如果PWM没有适当地与每一行的编程和保持期同步,则每行可以点亮不同的时间长度。此外,由接通或断开开关144引起的瞬时现象导致在电容器130上电荷量发生改变,以及通过开关142的编程电流的相应变化,该变化导致LED105亮度不希望的变化,因此引起LED105阵列中的亮度不匀。此外,控制每个LED的亮度的能力被限制在精确控制通过电流源供给LED的电流量的能力。

发明内容
本发明各种示范性的实施例提供用于能够调光有均匀亮度的有源矩阵发光二极管显示器的像素。一个像素包括能够耦合在电压源和地端之间的LED。该像素还包括耦合至该LED的第一脉宽调制(PWM)驱动器和第二脉宽调制驱动器。
也提供用于对有源矩阵发光二极管显示器上的像素阵列进行调光的系统。系统包括构成在电压源和地端之间耦合的多个行的多个LEDs。多个脉宽调制驱动器,其中还包括该多个脉宽调制驱动器中的每个耦合至该多个行中一行的每个LED。全局脉宽调制驱动器也耦合至该多个行中每行的多个LED中的每个LED。

本发明各种实施例所提供的AMLED显示器1350(见图13)包括像素1300(例如像素600,700,800,900,1000,1100和1200)的阵列1310。阵列1310排列成多个行1315和多个列1320。每一行1315的亮度是通过不同的PWM1375(例如,PWM675,775,875,975,1075,1175和1275)所控制,并且一次点亮一行。和传统显示器形成对比,依照行编程间隔,对于在显示器刷新周期内的不同时刻,每一PWM1375被配置成点亮每一行1315相同时间长度。此外,对于消隐期间的至少一部分,全局PWM1385(例如,PWM685,785,885,985,1085,1185和1285)配置为点亮每一行1315的每个像素1300。

以上实施例并不意味着限制本发明为显示器包括15行和/或关于图6-15揭露的时序配置(例如,1.0ms或0.5ms时间间隔,消隐期间为0.6ms或8.6ms,16.6ms显示周期时间,5.5ms或9ms的点亮周期,等等)。替代地,本领域技术人员可以应用关于图6-15所揭露的原理到包括任何数量行的显示器和/或无数的时间配置的显示器上。

Claims (10)

1、一种用于对包含电压源和地端的有源矩阵发光二极管显示器(1350)上的像素(1300)阵列(1310)进行调光的系统,该系统包括:
多个像素(1300),其形成在电压源和地端之间耦合的多个行(1315);
多个脉宽调制(PWM)驱动器(1375),该多个PWM驱动器中的每一个耦合至该多个行中的一行的每一个像素,并且配置为在周期的不同部分期间提供电流至所述多个行中的一行;以及
全局PWM驱动器(1385),其耦合至该多个行中的每行的多个像素中的每一个像素,并且配置为在周期的消隐期间提供电流至该多个行中的每行的多个像素中的每一个像素。
2、如权利要求1所述的系统,其中多个PWM驱动器中的每一个耦合在电压源和多个像素中的每一个像素之间,以及全局PWM驱动器耦合在电压源和多个像素中的每一个像素之间。
3、如权利要求1所述的系统,其中多个PWM驱动器中的每一个耦合在电压源和多个像素中的每一个像素之间,以及全局PWM驱动器耦合在多个像素中的每一个像素和地端之间。
4、如权利要求1所述的系统,进一步包括多个开关(742,744),其耦合在电压源和多个像素中的每一个像素之间,其中多个PWM驱动器中的每一个以及全局PWM驱动器耦合至该多个开关中的每一个开关。
5、一种用于对有源矩阵发光二极管显示器(1350)上所形成的多行像素(1300)阵列(1310)进行调光的方法,该方法包括以下步骤:
在周期的第一部分,经由第一脉宽调制(PWM)驱动器(13751)提供电流至第一行(1315)像素中的每个像素(1300);以及
在周期的第二部分,经由第二PWM驱动器(1385)提供电流至该第一行中的每个像素。
6、如权利要求5所述的方法,进一步包括以下步骤:在周期的第三部分,经由第三PWM驱动器(13752)提供电流至第二行(1315)像素中的每个像素。
7、如权利要求6所述的方法,进一步包括以下步骤:在周期的第二部分,经由第二PWM驱动器提供电流至该第二行中的每个像素,其中该周期的第二部分为消隐期间。
8、如权利要求7所述的方法,其中在消隐期间,大致同时提供电流至第一和第二行中的每个像素。
9、如权利要求7所述的方法,进一步包括以下步骤:在消隐期间之前编程第一PWM驱动器和第三PWM驱动器以终止提供电流。
10、一种有源矩阵发光二极管(AMLED)显示器的像素(700),包括:
发光二极管(LED)(705),其配置为耦合在电压源(725)和地端之间;
第一脉宽调制(PWM)驱动器(775),其耦合至LED并且配置为在周期的部分期间提供电流至LED;以及
第二PWM驱动器(785),其耦合至LED并且配置为在周期的消隐期间提供电流至LED。
