Abstract

技术领域
本公开涉及显示设备的驱动装置和驱动方法。
背景技术
近来，作为大且重的阴极射线管(CRT)设备的替代品，平板显示设备(诸如有机发光二极管(OLED)显示设备、等离子体显示面板(PDP)设备和液晶显示(LCD)设备)已得到了积极开发。
PDP设备是一种通过利用由气体放电产生的等离子体来显示字符或图像的设备，OLED设备是一种通过利用特定有机材料或聚合物的电致发光来显示字符或图像的设备。LCD设备通过如下的方法来显示期望的图像：对置于两个显示面板之间的液晶层施加电场，并控制电场强度以调整穿过液晶层的光的透射率，以显示图像。
在上述显示设备中，LCD设备和OLED设备均包括：具有开关器件的像素、包括显示信号线的显示面板、用于通过向显示信号线中的栅极线发送栅极信号而导通/截止像素的开关器件的栅极驱动器、用于产生多个灰度电压的灰度电压发生器、用于选择灰度电压中对应于图像数据的电压作为数据电压并对显示信号线中的数据线施加该数据电压的数据驱动器和用于控制其它组件的信号控制器。
信号控制器处理图像数据使其适合显示面板的操作条件，例如，通过比较当前帧和先前帧的数据来控制屏幕的亮度。为了处理图像数据，需要临时存储数据的存储器。然而当在信号控制器和存储器之间传送数据的数据迁移(transition)频繁发生时，功耗增加，因此EMI也增加。
发明内容
本发明的示例性实施例致力于提供具有能够将数据迁移的数目最小化的优点的显示设备的驱动装置和方法。
本发明的示例性实施例提供了一种显示设备的驱动装置，其中，该驱动装置包括对从外部电路输入的图像数据进行处理的信号控制器和与该信号控制器连接的存储器，其中，信号控制器包括转换图像数据并向存储器输出经转换的图像数据的数据转换器，其中，数据转换器包括转换并输出图像数据的数据输出单元和恢复从存储器输入的图像数据的数据输入单元。
在示例性实施例中，数据输出单元可包括多个逻辑电路，逻辑电路以图像数据中的最高有效位和剩余的位中的一个作为输入。

如图1所示，根据本发明的示例性实施例的液晶显示器包括液晶面板组件300、与液晶面板组件300连接的栅极驱动器400和数据驱动器500、与数据驱动器500连接的灰度电压发生器800、控制其他组件的信号控制器600以及与信号控制器600连接的存储器700。信号控制器600包括数据转换器610。
根据等效电路，液晶面板组件300包括多条信号线G1至Gn和D1至Dm和与信号线连接并以与矩阵近似的形式布置的多个像素PX。参照图2所示的结构，液晶面板组件300包括相互面对的下显示面板100和上显示面板200，以及置于两者之间的液晶层3。
信号线G1至Gn和D1至Dm包括多条输送栅极信号(也称作扫描信号)的栅极线G1至Gn和多条输送数据信号的数据线D1至Dm。栅极线G1至Gn沿大致行方向延伸并总体上相互平行，数据线D1至Dm沿列方向延伸并也总体上相互平行。
每个像素，例如与第i(i＝1，2，...，n)条栅极线Gi和第j(j＝1，2，...，m)条数据线Dj连接的像素PX，包括与信号线(Gi、Dj)连接的开关元件Q、与开关元件Q连接的液晶电容器Clc以及存储电容器Cst。可根据需要省略存储电容器Cst。
开关元件Q是被包括在下显示面板100中具有三个端子的器件，比如薄膜晶体管。在开关元件Q中，控制端与栅极线Gi连接，输入端与数据线Dj连接，输出端与液晶电容器Clc和存储电容器Cst连接。
液晶电容器Clc以下显示面板100的像素电极191和上显示面板200的共电极270作为它的两个端子，置于电极191和电极270之间的液晶层3作为介电材料。像素电极191与开关元件Q连接。在上显示面板200的前侧上形成共电极270，对共电极270施加共电压Vcom。共电极270可不同于图2所示的方式而被包括在下显示面板100中，在这种情况下，电极191和电极270中至少有一个可形成为线形或条形。
辅助液晶电容器Clc的存储电容器Cst具有单独的信号线(未示出)，该单独的信号线与在下显示面板100上设置的像素电极191叠置且在其间插入有绝缘体。对单独的信号线施加预定电压，比如共电压Vcom。然而，存储电容器Cst可通过被布置为通过绝缘体相互叠置的像素电极191和上面的先前的栅极线而形成。
另一方面，为了实现显示彩色，每个像素PX可唯一地显示原色中的一种(称作空分)，或者每个像素PX可交替地每次显示原色中的一种(称作时分)。可通过原色的空间和时间的组合来辨别所期望的颜色。原色的例子是包括红、绿和蓝的三原色。图2是空分的例子。如图2所示，每个像素PX都包括表示原色中的一种的滤色器230，滤色器230设置在上显示面板200中对应于像素电极191的区域中。与图2所示的不同的是，可在下显示面板100的像素电极191的上方或下方形成滤色器230。
至少一个用于使光发生偏振的偏振器(未示出)附着于液晶面板组件300的外表面。
参照图1，灰度电压发生器800产生两个与像素PX的透光率相关的灰度电压组(或参考灰度电压组)。在这两个灰度电压组中，一个灰度电压组具有相对于共电压Vcom的正值，另一个灰度电压组具有相对于共电压Vcom的负值。
栅极驱动器400与液晶面板组件300的栅极线G1至Gn连接。栅极驱动器400对栅极线G1至Gn施加栅极信号，该栅极信号为栅极导通电压Von和栅极截止电压Voff的组合。
数据驱动器500与液晶面板组件300的数据线D1至Dm连接。数据驱动器500选择由灰度电压发生器800产生的灰度电压中的一个并将所选择的灰度电压作为数据信号向数据线D1至Dm施加。然而当灰度电压发生器800施加预定数目的参考灰度电压而不是所有灰度级的电压时，数据驱动器500将参考灰度电压分压以产生所有灰度级的灰度电压并从中选择数据电压。
信号控制器600控制栅极驱动器400、数据驱动器500等。
单元400、500、600和800中的每个都可以以至少一个集成电路芯片的形式直接安装在液晶面板组件300上。可选择地，单元400、500、600和800中的每个都可以以带载封装(TCP)的形式安装在柔性印刷电路膜(未示出)上以附着于液晶面板组件300，或者安装在单独的印刷电路板(未示出)上。可选择地，单元400、500、600和800可与信号线G1至Gn和D1至Dm、薄膜晶体管开关元件Q等一起集成于液晶面板组件300中。另外，单元400、500、600和800可集成于单个芯片中。在这种情况下，单元400、500、600和800中的至少一个或者形成这些单元的至少一个电路元件可位于单个芯片的外部。
现在将详细说明液晶显示设备的操作。
信号控制器600从外部图形控制器(未示出)接收输入图像信号R、G和B以及用于控制输入图像信号R、G和B的显示的输入控制信号。输入控制信号的例子为垂直同步信号Vsync、水平同步信号Hsync、主时钟信号MCLK和数据使能信号DE。
基于输入图像信号R、G和B以及输入控制信号，信号控制器600根据液晶面板组件300的操作条件来处理输入图像信号R、G和B，以产生栅极控制信号CONT1和数据控制信号CONT2等。然后，信号控制器600向栅极驱动器400输出产生的栅极控制信号CONT1，向数据驱动器500输出产生的数据控制信号CONT2和经过处理的图像信号DAT。
栅极控制信号CONT1包括指示开始扫描的扫描起始信号和至少一个用于控制栅极导通电压Von的输出时间的时钟信号。栅极控制信号CONT1还可包括用于限制栅极导通电压Von的持续时间的输出使能信号。
数据控制信号CONT2包括用于指示一行像素PX的数据传输的初始的水平同步起始信号、用于请求对数据线D1至Dm施加数据信号的加载信号和数据时钟信号。数据控制信号CONT2还可包括使数据信号相对于共电压Vcom的电压极性发生反转的反转信号(inversion signal)，下文中将数据信号相对于共电压的电压极性简略为数据信号的极性。
数据驱动器500根据由信号控制器600传输的数据控制信号CONT2接收一行像素PX的数字图像信号DAT，并选择对应于每个数字图像信号DAT的灰度电压以将数字图像信号DAT转换为模拟数据信号。然后，数据驱动器500对相应的数据线D1至Dm施加经转换的模拟数据信号。
栅极驱动器400根据由信号控制器600传输的栅极控制信号CONT1对栅极线G1至Gn施加栅极导通电压Von，以导通与栅极线G1至Gn相连接的开关元件Q。然后，当开关元件Q导通时，通过开关元件Q向对应的像素PX施加施加到数据线D1至Dm的数据信号。
施加到像素PX的数据信号的电压和共电压Vcom之间的差成为液晶电容器Clc的充电电压，即像素电压。液晶分子的取向(alignment)根据像素电压的大小而变化以改变穿过液晶层3的光的偏振。偏振的改变使得通过附着于液晶面板组件300的偏振器的光的透射率的变化。
以一个水平期间(horizontal period)为单元，重复执行上述操作以依次对所有栅极线G1至Gn施加栅极导通电压Von，使得数据信号被施加到所有像素PX，其中，所述一个水平期间可写作1H并与水平同步信号Hsync和数据使能信号DE的一个期间相同。结果，得以显示一帧的图像。
当一个帧结束，下一个帧开始，控制施加到数据驱动器500的反转信号的状态，使得施加到每个像素的数据信号的极性与先前帧中的极性相反(帧反转)。此时，根据反转信号的特性，即使在一帧中，  流过一条数据线的数据信号的极性也可以被反转(行反转和点反转)。另外，施加到一个像素行的数据信号的极性可互不相同(列反转和点反转)。
现在，将参照图3至图6B详细描述根据本发明示例性实施例的信号控制器600的数据转换器610。

数据输出单元611和数据输入单元613以并行的方式分别向/从存储器700传送数据。在图4和图5中，示出了8位数据传送的例子。
如图6A中的表格所示，同一列的数据信号DT1至DT8(下文，称作原始数据)在输入到数据转换器610之前被并行地一起传送，然后下一列的数据信号被传送。这些数据信号DT1-DT8分别被作为输入和输出在图4和图5中示出。换言之，如图6A中的表格所示，全部为“0”的第一列数据信号被传送。接下来，全部为“1”的第二列数据信号被传送，接下来，全部为“0”的第三列数据信号被传送。在这种情况下，当用于辨别存储器700中的逻辑值“1”所需的电压为3V时，施加到连接线(connection wire)的电压连续地从地电压变化到3V，并由此增加了EMI。
众所周知，当两个输入中仅一个输入为“1”时异或(XOR)电路输出“1”，当两个输入具有相同值时，即所有输入为“0”或“1”时，XOR电路输出“0”。
如图4所示，原始数据信号DT1至DT8中的最高有效位(MSB)DT1被直接作为输出数据信号DTO1传送到存储器700，并同时也输入到XOR门。
XOR门接收MSB DT1和剩余的位DT2至DT8中的一个作为输入，并比较这两个输入，以产生输出数据信号DTO2至DTO8。
由于第一列的原始数据信号DT1至DT8全部为“0”，所以XOR门的两个输入相同，使得所有输出数据信号DTO1至DTO8变为“0”，如图6B所示。
如上所述，由于第二列的原始数据信号DT1至DT8全部为“1”，所以XOR门的两个输入相同，使得除了MSB数据信号DTO1之外的所有输出数据信号DTO2至DTO8变为“0”，
当从存储器700向信号控制器600传送数据信号时，原始数据信号DT1至DT8应该被恢复。当来自存储器700的所有输入数据信号DTI1至DTI8为“0”时，两个输入为“0”，使得所有原始数据信号DT1至DT8变为“0”，这与图6A的表格中的第一列显示的值相同。
同样，对于图6B中的第二列的输入数据信号DTI1至DTI8来说，MSBDTI1为“1”，剩余的位DTI2至DTI8为“0”，因此XOR门的两个输入不同，使得所有XOR门输出变为“1”，这与原始数据信号DT1至DT8相同。
如上所述，当从信号控制器600向存储器700传送数据信号时，可通过以输入数据信号中的MSB DT1和剩余的位DTI2至DTI8作为两个输入向XOR门进行输入而将数据迁移的数目最小化以减少EMI。另外，当从存储器700向信号控制器600传送数据信号时，数据信号可通过穿过XOR门而被恢复。
基于实验结果，根据传统的方法，当EMI产生的量在一次谐波和二次谐波中分别为28.17dB和29.68dB时，根据本发明的示例性实施例，EMI产生的量在一次谐波和二次谐波中分别减少到20dB和26dB，
通过利用上述方法，可将在信号控制器600和存储器700之间传送的数据信号的迁移的数目最小化，因此降低了功耗，从而减少了EMI。
已详细描述了本发明的示例性实施例，然而本发明的范围并不限于此，本领域普通技术人员可在本发明的范围内利用权利要求书中限定的基本原理做出各种修改和等效布置。

Claims (14)

1.一种显示设备的驱动装置，包括对从外部电路输入的图像数据进行处理的信号控制器和与所述信号控制器连接的存储器，
其中，所述信号控制器包括数据转换器，其中，所述数据转换器转换所述图像数据并向所述存储器输出对应于所述图像数据的经转换的图像数据，
其中，所述数据转换器包括转换所述图像数据并输出经转换的图像数据的数据输出单元和恢复从所述存储器输入的所述经转换的图像数据的数据输入单元。
2.如权利要求1所述的驱动装置，其中，所述数据输出单元包括多个逻辑电路，所述逻辑电路以所述图像数据中的最高有效位和剩余的位中的一个作为输入。
3.如权利要求2所述的驱动装置，其中，所述数据输入单元包括多个逻辑电路，所述逻辑电路以从所述存储器接收的所述图像数据中的最高有效位和剩余的位中的一个作为输入。
4.如权利要求3所述的驱动装置，其中，所述最高有效位不通过所述多个逻辑电路。
5.如权利要求4所述的驱动装置，其中，所述多个逻辑电路包括异或门。
6.一种显示设备的驱动方法，其中，所述显示设备包括对从外部电路传送的图像数据进行处理的信号控制器和与所述信号控制器连接的存储器，所述方法包括下面的步骤：
转换所述图像数据中除了最高有效位之外的所有位并向所述存储器传送经转换的图像数据，
恢复从所述存储器接收的所述图像数据中除了所述最高有效位之外的所有位。
7.如权利要求6所述的驱动方法，其中，所述信号控制器包括数据输出单元和数据输入单元，其中，所述数据输出单元用于转换所述图像数据中除了所述最高有效位之外的所有位并向所述存储器输出经转换的图像数据，所述数据输入单元用于恢复从所述存储器输入的图像数据中除了所述最高有效位之外的所有位。
8.如权利要求7所述的驱动方法，其中，所述数据输出单元和所述数据输入单元都包括多个异或门。
9.如权利要求8所述的驱动方法，其中，所述多个异或门中的每个都以所述图像数据中的所述最高有效位和剩余的位中的一个作为输入。
10.一种液晶显示器，包括：
多个像素；
数据线，向所述像素传输数据电压；
数据驱动器，对所述数据线施加所述数据电压；
信号控制器，控制所述数据驱动器并处理从外部电路输入的图像数据；
存储器，与所述信号控制器连接，
其中，所述信号控制器包括数据转换器，所述数据转换器转换所述图像数据并向所述存储器输出对应于所述图像数据的经转换的图像数据，
其中，所述数据转换器包括转换所述图像数据并输出经转换的图像数据的数据输出单元和恢复从所述存储器输入的所述经转换的图像数据的数据输入单元。
11.如权利要求10所述的液晶显示器，其中，所述数据输出单元包括多个逻辑电路，所述逻辑电路以所述图像数据中的最高有效位和剩余的位中的一个作为输入。
12.如权利要求11所述的液晶显示器，其中，所述数据输入单元包括多个逻辑电路，所述逻辑电路以从所述存储器接收的所述图像数据中的最高有效位和剩余的位中的一个作为输入。
13.如权利要求12所述的液晶显示器，其中，所述最高有效位不通过所述多个逻辑电路。
14.如权利要求13所述的液晶显示器，其中，所述多个逻辑电路包括异或门。
