Abstract

The data input unit (1) has an insertion aperture (2) for the code card (9), the latter having the information recorded in bit fashion by individual permanent magnets (10), the code card (9) itself, being made from a non-ferromagnetic material. The decoding system employs a number of magneto-electric-transducers (7), each aligned with one of the permanent magnets (10) on the code card (9). Pref. the permanent magnets (10) are positioned in bores along each side of the code card (9), and the magneto-electric transducers (7) are pref. reed switches, operated via the permanent magnets, with the insertion slot (2) having further switch means (4-6) for the electric circuit to the transducers (7), responsive to full insertion of the data card (9).
