Abstract

An upper chord bearing joist (20) comprises an upper elongate chord member (22) cold-formed from a unitary piece of sheet steel, the upper chord member (22) having a flange portion and a web receiving portion orthogonal thereto and the web receiving portion having two web receiving tabs (46, 48) and a pair of inner flange portions (45, 47), each inner flange portion extending outward from one of the web receiving tabs respectively; a lower elongate chord member (24), wherein the upper chord member (22) extends longitudinally beyond the lower chord member (24) at each end thereof; and a generally planar steel web (26) attached to the web receiving portion of the upper chord member (22) between the two web receiving tabs (46, 48) and attached to the lower chord member (24). A plurality of upper chord bearing joists may form a supporting system for use in composite floor and roof systems.
