Abstract
This is a thin flat LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) computer monitor, connected to the main computer (with the CPU) with a cord or cordlessly, and having on or with it touch-operable keyboard, pointer-device, scroll button, etc., so the computer can be operated from the said monitor.

Pale - 2 (of 6) Background of Invention If in terms of portability, maneuverability and ease of operation of a computer the laptop (or so-called "notebook") was a big jump from the desktop, the present invention may be described as a quantum leap.
Even a laptop is not suitable for certain maneuvers or handling, such as reading or writing while lying in bed. However, it would be very convenient if just a detachable laptop monitor, as in the present invention, may be used hand-held for such reading or writing in bed, for example. It may also be very conveniently used in situations where legroom or elbowroom is at a premium, say in a crowded meeting place or transport. Under these circumstances, the bulk of the computer may be tucked away from the handling body parts of the user, especially the hands, and only the monitor, as in the present invention, is used in a, say, hand-held position for reading or writing, etc. more conveniently (that is, being still lighter and slimmer and more compact on the working surface or work-top than even the laptop itself, for example).

Diagram A represents an ordinary laptop computer (with monitor ( l ), body of computer (2), keyboard (3) on body of computer, and touch-pad (4) on body of computer) as well as a "Worktop Monitor" (1 I ) of the present invention, the latter (detachable) shown not detached from the main or body of the computer.
Diagram B (corded variety with cord (S) shown here) illustrates the present invention-the monitor here being different in not only being detachable from the main or body of the computer but also having some special characteristics, such as, an integrated touch-operable keyboard (33), pointer-device (44), scroll-button (77), etc., displayed and usable as and when required.
Diagram C, Diagram D, Diagram E and Diagram F illustrate the present invention but without the main or body of the computer. Here, instead of using the space on the actual screen of the monitor, a flat keyboard pad with a touch-pad and any other button may be attached to the said monitor.
Such an attached keyboard pad may be foldable (8) (Diagram C}---to be folded away to the back or in front of the monitor, sav, with hinges (6), or it may be a sliding (R8) variety (Diagrams D, E and F}--to be slid into tracks above 1;99) or below (98) the said monitor itself.
Instead of the touch-pad (44), this "Worktop Monitor" may be operated by using direct touch, such as with forger, on the monitor itself as the pointer device.
A cordless variety (not illustrated here as such but may be easily envisioned or assumed to be illustrated in Diagrams C, D, E and F) of the present invention-where the monitor ((I l) without the cord (5)) may remotely work with the main or body of the~ computer (2~--is also possible,.the mechanisms being generally known in the industry.
In keeping with the terms "desktop" and "laptop", the present invention can be simply called a "worktop"
instead of "Worktop Monitor".
