Abstract
Cold disinfectant and sterilizing preparation, characterized in that it comprises a first part, constituted by a solution of tetracetyl-ethylendiami ne (TAED), sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium hydroxide or carbonate or other alka li in general, which are solubilized in water after heating, to which sodium alkylbenzenesulphonate, ethylendiamino-tetracetic acid sodium salt, isopropy l or ethyl or n-propyl or butyl alcohol and concentrated acetic acid are added to increase activity and stability, and a second part (activator) constitute d by peroxides of any kind.
Description
STABILIZED DISINFECTANT PREPARATION CONTAINING PEROXIDES
DESCRIPTION
The invention concerns the disinfection field and in particular it concerns the disinfection and sterilization of the material used in all the fields in which it is necessary to eliminate the pathogenic microbiologic forms of life, such as the sanitary field (from medico-surgical devices to hospital sheets).
The normal health rules impose that any medical or surgical device and the complementary accessories are perfectly disinfected and sterilized before being readmitted to use.
For all the multipurpose medico-surgical devices the disinfection and/or sterilization occurs after a suitable cleaning from residues and organic material, through sterilization in autoclave.
All the multipurpose and not multipurpose medico-surgical devices that don't tolerate high temperatures are disinfected and/or sterilized with the help of solutions called cold sterilizing solutions.
It is known that the peracetic acid is strongly oxidant and depending on its concentration it can be toxic, carcinogenic and even explosive with consequent danger in use.
The cold solutions currently on the market are characterized in that they have an acid pH to maintain the stability (few months), with the consequence that they result to be particularly corrosive towards the materials to be treated (medical and/or surgical devices) or have to be buffered with a neutral pH with the disadvantage that they must be used immediately or only for one cycle.
Therefore a new cold disinfectant-sterilizing solution has been studied and realized, which gives absolute guarantee also in the cold treatment.
The object of this patent is a new cold disinfectant-sterilizing solution comprising a first part constituted by a solution of tethracetyl-ethylendiammine (TAED), sodium tripolyposphate, sodium hydroxide or carbonate or other alkali in general which are solubilized in water after heating, to which sodium alkylbenzenesulphonate, ethylendiammino-tethracetic acid sodium salt, isopropyl or ethyl or n-propyl or butyl alcohol and concentrated acetic acid are added to increase the activity and the stability - the liquid phase so obtained remains stable for a long period (about five years) - and a second part (activator) constituted by peroxides of any kind.
The two parts are mixed only at the moment of use generating through a chemical reaction the peracetic acid which is the product desired and which is used as a cold disinfectant-sterilizing preparation.
The disinfectant-sterilizing solution so obtained has high stability and therefore it is usable, from the moment of its activation, for a period of at least five days, and however depending on the quantity of the equipment which has been disinfected-sterilized.The invention presents the following particular advantages:
- the solution obtained remains stable for a period of at least five days though working close to neutrality;
- the pH close to neutrality guarantees, differently from the known products, the absolute respect of the materials (medical devices) with which it is in contact;
- due to the low concentration of peracetic acid generated, it doesn't constitute an element of risk and danger for the personnel during the handling and it doesn't represent a polluting factor for the environment during preparation, storage, use and final disposal.
The solution can be successfully used for the cold disinfection-sterilization of thermosensitive and non- thermosensitive equipment, in the hospital and sanitary field in general.
The product can be used as disinfectant-sterilizing preparation in all the fields where it becomes necessary to eliminate pathogenic microbiological forms of life.
The aim of this procedure is to take into solution the tethracetylethylendianlmine's (TAED) acetic groups.
This can be achieved only through the presence of sodium hydroxide or carbonate, other allcali in general and through heating.
Sodium alkylbenzenesulphonate works as a surfactant and lowers the vapor pressure in the solution.
Ethylendiamminotethracetic acid sodium salt (EDTA) works as binder of the Fe+3, Ca+2, Mg~2 ions, which can degrade the active principle.
Sodium tripolyposphate, isopropyl alcohol and acetic acid are useful for stabilizing and for potentiating the germicide action of peracetic acid.
The various quantities of the different substances can undergo changes in order to obtain better characteristics of the final disinfectant and sterilizing compound, deducible either after laboratory studies and as a consequence of practical knowledge.
The powder part isn't subject to particular degradation or instability, and it is sufficient to keep it at normal temperature in suitable hermetic containers.
The liquid part shows excellent stability over time, which makes it usable up to three years after its production.
These are sufficient schematic indications to allow an expert person to put the project into effect; consequently, in tangible application, some variations may be made without affecting the substance of the innovative concept.
Therefore, with reference to the above description and to the enclosed table, the following claims are put forth.
