Description
,. CA 02283763 1999-09-27 This invention pertains to a protector for footwear and more particularly to a protector for shielding the heel of a woman's shoe or boot from scuffing or marring.
The protector i.s illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the protector;
Figure is a side view of the protector; and Figure 3 is an elevation of the protector shown attached to a shoe.
Like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the description of the drawings.
With reference to Figure 1, the protector, generally 10, has a pouch 12 and straps 14,16. The pouch has a U-shaped upper edge 17, spaced side walls 18, 20 and a rear wall 22.
The walls extend downwardly from the upper edge and terminate at a bottom wall 26. The side and rear walls are joined integrally to each other along their sides edges and to the bottom wall along their lower edges. The side, rear and bottom walls form one continuous and preferably smooth surface both inside and out.
The front edge 27 of the side and bottom walls defines an opening 28 at the front of the protector. An elastic strip 29 is attached to the side walls 18, 20 adjacent to each front edge and extends from the upper edge 17 to the bottom wall 26.
An exterior pad 30, of slip-resistant material such as studded plastic or rubbed is attached to the outer surface of the bottom wall while an interior pad 34 is attached to the inner surface of the same bottom wall.
One end of each strap is connected to the upper portion of each side wall. A strip 44 of velcro is attached to the inner wall of strap 16 and a like strip 46 is attached to the outer wall of strap 14. By means of the two strips of velcro the two straps may be interconnected where it most suits the wearer of the protector.
With reference to Figure 3, the heal 50 of a woman's shoe 51 is located within the pouch such that its lower wall 52 contacts the slip-resistant 'interior pad 34. Exterior pad 30 contacts the ground. The protector serves to shield or protect against scuffing and marring of the heel and from damage by salt or other abrasive.
The protector should be roomy enough to accommodate very thin heels such as "stilettos" and very thick ones such as "clunky " heels. Being roomy the protector is easy to attach and to remove from a heel. Interior pad 34 ensures that the heel, whatever shape, does not slide within the protector and exterior pad 30 ensures that the protected heel does not slip on the ground.
The protector can accordingly be safely worn by a woman

Interior pad 34 ensures that the heel, whatever shape, does not slide within the protector and exterior pad 30 ensures that the protected heel does not slip on the ground.
The protector can accordingly be safely worn by a woman
2 while she is walking since its exterior pad grips the ground and minimizes slippage while the inner pad minimizes slippage of her heel relative to the protector.
The protector is made of water-proof or water-resistant material. It should be flexible so that it can be folded for storage in a woman's purse or elsewhere.
It will be understood of course that modifications can be made in the preferred embodiments illustrated and described herein without departing from the scope and purview of the invention as described herein.
