To place a load on the water, the platform needs to be secured to the pier using a system that allows it to be raised and lowered; then fixed to the bed using pillars and piles, and finally the load needs to be placed on it. With the load in position, the platform is lowered to slightly submerge the load so that it can float. To remove a water load, the operations are reversed: start with the submerged platform, place the load on top and then raise the platform so that the load can be lifted off the pier.
