Abstract
The invention relates to a method for treating waste materials in which a fraction having a high calorific value and a predetermined maximum particle diameter is obtained by means of mechanical, thermal and biological treatment. The fraction can either be utilized as replacement fuel in energy intensive processes or is burned in a refuse incinerator, whereby the free-emerging energy can be utilized by coupling the energy to an energy intensive process, or is gasified. The resulting gas can subsequently be used in an energetic or material manner such as, for example, for energy substitution in power plants and cement factories, for producing methanol or can be utilized as a reduction means in steel plants.
