P/00/011 Regulation 3.2 AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 ORIGINAL COMPLETE SPECIFICATION STANDARD PATENT Invention Title: "ADULT TOY" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me/us: TITLE: ADULT TOY BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 5 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates to an adult toy. The invention particularly relates, but is not limited to, an adult sex toy. 10 2. Prior Art Dildos and vibrator attachments, in an almost infinite range of sizes / shapes / materials / textures, are available to achieve sexual pleasure - either by the user 15 alone or with consenting partner(s). In particular, vibrators provide relatively high frequency, but low amplitude, stimulation, to the parts of the body to which they are applied. In contrast, dildos can provide large amplitude stimulation, but at a relatively low frequency, and can be tiring to the operator. 20 SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an adult sex toy which can provide relatively high amplitude stimulation, at a relatively high frequency, to the parts of the body to which it is applied. It is a preferred object to provide such a toy where the frequency is selectively 25 adjustable. It is a further preferred object to provide such a toy which can be fitted with a range of alternative accessories. It is a still further preferred object to provide such a toy which can be used for self-stimulation or by a consenting partner. 30 Other preferred objects will become apparent from the following description. In a broad aspect, the present invention resides in an adult sex toy including: a housing; a reciprocating member slidaby mounted in, and extending from, the housing; an electric motor mounted in the housing connected to a source of electricity; 35 and a drive mechanism in the housing, operably connecting the electric motor to the reciprocating member to convert a rotary output from the electric motor to a reciprocating input for the reciprocating member. Preferably, the housing can be gripped in an operator's hand; and 40 the reciprocating member extends from one end of the housing, supported by a guide member at the one end of the housing.

Preferably, the reciprocating member is a rod, or a tube closed at its distal end, and is arranged to frictionally receive and engage one or more removable accessories, such as penile sheaths of different sizes / shapes / materials / flexibilities / textures. 5 Preferably, the electric motor is connected to a battery, which is preferably rechargeable, and is provided with an "On/Off' switch and/or speed control. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS 20 The adult sex toy 10 has a housing 20 comprising respective RHS & LHS casing parts 21, 22, to be hereinafter described in more detail with reference to FIGS. 5 and 6, formed of injection-moulded plastics-material e.g. PVC, polyethylene, polypropylene, or the like. The housing 20 is split along its centre-line, and the casing parts are releasably connected together by a plurality of screw-fasteners 23. 25 A re-chargeable battery / battery pack 40 (e.g. 9V alkaline or lithium-iodide dry cell) is mounted in complementary battery locating flanges 24, 25 in the casing parts 21, 22, and is connected to a recharging jack 41. An electric motor 50, (e.g. 9V DC input) has its body 51 mounted in complementary motor locating flanges 26, 27 in the casing parts 21, 22. The input of 30 the electric motor 50 is connected to the battery pack 40 by an "On/Off' switch 59 and by a speed-controller 52 having an external control knob 53. The controller 52 controls the rotational speed of the output shaft 54 of the motor 50. A reciprocating member 60 has as a tubular body 61 in the form of a sleeve with a convergently-tapered bore 62 at its (outer) distal end. The reciprocating 35 member 60 is slidaby received in a complementary tubular guide member 28 formed by complementary semi-circular formations 29, 30 in the casing parts 21, 22. The 3 inner end 63 of the reciprocating member 60 is provided with a pair of spaced, parallel flanges 64 with aligned bores 65 therethrough. The drive mechanism 70 has a crank-plate 71, fixed to the output shaft 54 of the motor 50, with a crank-pin 72. A connecting rod 73 has a driven end 74 operably 5 connected to the crank-pin 72, and a driven end 75 operably connected to the flanges 64 on the reciprocating member 60 via a wrist-pin 76 received in the aligned bores 65 in the flanges 64. A penile sheath 80 has a hollow body 81, with a shaped head 82 at an outer end. The hollow body 81 has a divergently-tapered portion 83, at an inner end, which 10 is releasably (frictionally) mountable in the convergently-tapered bore 62 in the tubular body 61 of the reciprocating member 60. The operator can also apply the reciprocating member 60 to other portions of the female body which are sexually-arousable (i.e. the erogenous zones). 25 Similarly, the operator can apply the reciprocating member 60, and any sheath or accessory 80, 180 fitted thereto, to the male genitalia and/or other erogenous zones. As hereinbefore described, a person can use the toy 10 for self-pleasure; or with a consenting partner. 30 The skilled addressee will appreciate the range of accessories, and potential modes of use, are limited only by the imagination of the operator and/or partner. The toy 10 is relatively compact, easy to use, flexible in its potential applications, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and/or operate. Various changes and modifications may be made to the embodiments 35 described and illustrated without departing from the present invention.

Claims (6)

1. An adult sex toy including: a housing; 5 a reciprocating member slidaby mounted in, and extending from, the housing; an electric motor mounted in the housing connected to a source of electricity; and a drive mechanism in the housing, operably connecting the electric motor to the reciprocating member to convert a rotary output from the electric motor to a 10 reciprocating input for the reciprocating member.

2. The toy as claimed in claim 1, wherein: the housing can be gripped in an operator's hand; and the reciprocating member extends from one end of the housing, supported by a guide member at the one end of the housing. 15

The toy as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, wherein: the reciprocating member is a rod, a tube closed at its distal end, or a sleeve with a convergently-tapered bore at its distal end, and the reciprocating member is arranged to frictionally receive and engage one or more removable accessories, such as penile sheaths of different sizes / shapes / materials / flexibilities / textures. 20

4. The toy as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein: the electric motor is connected to at least one battery, and is provided with an "On/Off' switch and/or speed control.
