Abstract

The invention concerns a device for processing the surfaces of pipes, for instance for winding them with anti-corrosion tape, the device having a tool carrier, fitted with rollers, which can be placed against the pipe surface. The angle which the axes of rotation of the rollers make with the axis of the pipe can be adjusted to give the desired contact length. The tool carrier (2) is designed so that its rollers (3, 4) grip the pipe like a claw, at least one guide roller (10, 11) for a continuous drive belt (15) being mounted on the tool carrier (2) near the end of each claw arm, the drive belt passing round the side of the pipe (1) remote from the tool carrier (2). One of the rollers (10) is designed as a drive roller and is linked to a drive motor (12). The other roller (11) is designed as a brake roller and is linked to a preferably adjustable brake (14). The drive roller (10) and the brake roller (11) are mounted so that they can be staggered with respect to each other relative to the diametrical plane of the pipe. This enables large pipes to be wound using a small tool carrier, since it is merely necessary to fit a suitably long drive belt.
