Durch die mühselige Montage werden sie vermutlich nur sehr selten abmontiert und gewaschen. Dass dadurch ein Staubfänger besonderer Art in unmittelbarer Nähe des Kindes montiert wird, bedenken nur sehr wenige Eltern. Durch seine Starrheit und mühsame Montage wird es mitunter auch tagsüber, wenn das kleine Kind noch viel im Bettchen liegt, nicht abmontiert werden. Zu bedenken ist hier aber, dass für die Entwicklung des Kindes empfohlen wird, dass es zur Seite schauen und die Umwelt wahrnehmen kann. Das Kind sollte im Bett umgedreht oder die Reize von beiden Seiten bekommen können, damit ein einseitiges Flachdrücken des Kopfes verhindert wird. Beim UÜberziehen der Matratze des Babybettchens verrutscht das Nestchen spätestens beim Einlegen der Matratze in das Bett, muss mühsam herausgezupft werden und führt wiederum dazu, dass das Leintuch des Bettchens verwurschtelt ist. Das Wechseln der Bettwäsche erweist sich, trotz der eigentlich kleinen Größe des Bettzeugs, daher oft als schweißtreibender Akt. Die Nestchen selbst sind, wenn der Lattenrost auf die höchste Stufe gestellt ist, oft so hoch wie das Bettchen selbst. Als Füllmaterial wird 100 % Polyester verwendet und oft das gesamte Bett des Kindes damit umrandet, obwohl Polyester nicht atmungsaktiv ist.
