Abstract

The present disclosure relates to the use of cannabidiol (CBD) for the reduction of total convulsive seizure frequency in the treatment of "treatment-resistant epilepsy" (TRE). In particular, the disclosure relates to the use of CBD of treating TRE when the TRE is Dravet syndrome; myoclonic absence seizures or febrile infection related epilepsy syndrome (FIRES). The disclosure further relates to the use of CBD in combination with one or more anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs).

Use of cannabidiol (CBD) in the manufacture of a medicament for the treatment of treatment-resistant epilepsy, wherein the epilepsy is Dravet Syndrome, wherein the CBD 5 has a purity of at least 98% w/w and comprises not more than 0.15% w/w tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), and wherein the dose of CBD is from 5 mg/kg/day to 25 mg/kg/day.
2. The use according to claim 1, wherein the medicament is for use in combination with two 10 or more concomitant anti-epileptic drugs (AED).
3. The use according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the CBD is in the form of a highly purified extract of cannabis. 15
4. The use according to claim 1 or claim 2, wherein the CBD is synthetically produced.
5. The use according to claim 2, wherein the two or more AED are selected from the group consisting of: clobazam; levetiracetam; topiramate; stiripentol; phenobarbital; lacsamide; valproic acid; zonisamide; perampanel; and fosphenytoin.
6. The use according to claim 5, wherein one of the AED is clobazam.
7. The use according to any one of claims 2 to 6, wherein the number of AED that are used in combination with the medicament is reduced.
8. The use according to any one of claims 2 to 7, wherein the dose of anti-epileptic drugs that are used in combination with the medicament is reduced.
9. The use according to claim 8, wherein the dose of AED which is reduced is of clobazam.
10. The use according to claim 1, substantially as herein described with reference to any example thereof.
