Books are exposed to being damaged or torn at the backing shoulder joint; either between the front cover or the back cover and the book contents or both.
It is known that book repairs of this kind are costly.
This invention will provide for a repair that is applicable to any type of book.
This invention also provides for an accessible, inexpensive, quality and easy to use structure and process for repairing damaged or torn backing shoulder joints of any book, so that those using it need not be experienced in book repair.
The only known method of repair is a double sided strip of tape, suitable for paper backed books only.
The equipment used in a prior method does not provide for quality of repair or long term guarantee of durability.
The object of this invention is to provide an accessible, inexpensive, quality and easy to use repair kit for backing shoulder joints of any book. The preferred invention will now be described in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings.
The invention is presented as two pieces of equipment.
These are: 1) One evenly folded sheet of paper then called an endpaper(6a) with a double sided adhesive strip(4) not less than 7millimtres and not more than 10 millimetres in width, but of a particular length with a peel away backing paper (5a) attached to one side of the endpaper fold (7) A double sided self adhesive strip of mull cloth (5) of a particular width and length, with two thirds of each corresponding side, covered with a peel away backing paper strip (5b)and the remaining third adhered to the plain side of a scorelined one side self adhesive paper (6) the same size as the endpaper. The endpaper side without the adhesive strip is glued to the plain side of the scorelined paper.(6) 2) One instruction sheet with diagrams. <^ERTyo^ 2 29&446 The process and structure of the invention is earned out in a set of seven stages.Aspects of the invention will be revealed by the following description and explanation and accompanying drawings.
In the event that a backing shoulder joint of a book is damaged or torn and an individual wants to repair and reinforce the backing shoulder joint, the person would follow the instruction sheet with diagrams contained in the invention through the stages one to seven. 1) The book to be repaired is placed on a hard surface with cover open and facing away from repairer 2) The equipment previously referred to in (1) is trimmed to the exact size of the inside of the book cover (l)and book contents (2)of the book to be repaired. 3) The equipment previously referred to in (1) being the adhesive strip (4) no less than 7 millimetres and no more than 10 millimetres in width is attached to one side of the endpaper fold.(7) 4)The remaining backing paper (5 a) is removed and pressed firmly into the backing shoulder joint.
) The backing paper on the mull cloth previously referred to in (1) is peeled away to expose the mull cloth and then secured to the cover of the book. 6) The corresponding backing paper (5a)on the mull cloth is removed. 7) The backing paper of the scorelined paper (6) previously referred to in (1) is then removed and in stages (6a, 6b, 6c,) and attached to the cover of the book.
This process completes the repair and reinforcement of the damaged or torn backing shoulder joint. 299446 Herein follows an explanation of each figure in the accompanying drawings.
