Abstract
The eye pressure is measured by means of a membrane (4), together with a liquid-filled chamber, electronic or other pressure measuring apparatus (8), volume pressure (6) and force (10) measuring devices. In addition to the tonometer membrane and chamber (4, 5) a second membrane (6) with micrometer adjustment is provided and means for adjusting the volume or pressure in the chamber. A third membrane regulates the expansibility of the chamber. A miniature electronic pressure gauge shows the liquid pressure, and the pressure pattern outside the tonometer can operate a written recorder. The assembly comprising these parts is suspended by a spring counterbalancing its weight, and carefully regulates the force exerted on the cornea of the eye. The spring fits round an axial tube (9) fixed to the assembly, and is attached to a handle, so that the force exerted during tonometry can be read off on a scale or electronically recorded.
