Abstract

The ceiling comprises inverted U-section beams at right angles to each other, and with lips on the ends hooking into slots in the sides of the beams at right angles to them so that the lower edges of all beams lie in the same plane. The lips meet inside the cross-beam in which they engage, their lower edges likewise being in the same plane as those of the beams. These have slots in them at the same distance apart as the beam sides, and intersecting strips hook into them to form gratings. Each grating so formed, in a compartment enclosed by beams, has the strips passing through both sides of the respective beam and ending clear of the further side by an amount corresponding to the step formed in the strip end. The slots in the beam sides can extend at least partially into the upper beam surface, typically roughly halfway across, adjacent slots extending into the upper surface from alternate sides of the beam.
