Description
Light directing system for plant cultivation.
Background 5 The present invention relates to a light directing system to promote crop growth for a plant cultivation system wherein crop is arranged in line, and wherein a passageway extends along the line of crop.
Such a light directing system is known from US2986842A which relates to the growing of plants, more particularly, to increase of the solar radiation received by the 10 plants so as to regulate and increase the photosynthesis of these growing plants. The apparatus of US2986842A essentially comprises a reflecting structure and a supporting structure. However this apparatus renders in circumstances areas between pair of rows not or poorly passable for a machine or operator.
US2940219A relates to a means for promoting plant growth and has for its object 15 to provide a means for promoting plant growth by reflecting sunlight on to the rows of plants and directing sprinkled water on to the rows rather than between the same. A more specific object is to provide an improved means for promoting plant growth comprising a sheet to be placed between rows and having a highly reflective outer surface for reflecting the sun's rays on to the plant rows and so formed as to direct the 20 water on to the rows of plants. However this sheet placed between rows and so formed as to direct the water on to the rows of plants renders in circumstances areas between the rows not or poorly passable for a machine or operator.
Likewise, FR928023A discloses a removable waterproof and reflective element which is placed between the lines of crop and creates an extremely hot and humid 25 atmosphere favourable to vegetation, causing a remarkable precocity. However this reflective element which is placed between the lines of crop renders in circumstances areas between the lines of crop not or poorly passable for a machine or operator.
Summary of the invention 30
The invention aims to a provide a light directing system which improves lighting conditions and maintains accessibility of the crop in a plant cultivation system wherein crop is arranged in line, and wherein a passageway extends along the line of crop.
2
Another object of the invention is to provide an alternative light directing system for a plant cultivation system.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a light directing system for a plant cultivation system, wherein a problem associated with known such light directing 5 systems is at least partly solved.
According to a first aspect of the invention this is realized with a light directing system to promote crop growth for a plant cultivation system wherein crop is arranged in line, and wherein a passageway extends along the line of crop, and wherein the light 10 directing system comprising an elongate flexible foil member which extends in the passageway for reflecting light towards the crop, wherein the system comprises a foil handling system coupled with the elongate foil member for manoeuvring the elongate foil member between a lower position, wherein the passageway is passable for an operator or machine for treating the crop, and an upper position wherein in use the 15 elongate foil member reflects light towards the crop.
This elongate foil member being flexible provides the possibility of handling the foil such that the foil takes up the lower position wherein the passageway is passable, while the handling system provides the possibility manoeuvring the foil member into 20 its lower position.
The foil member being flexible means the foil member can be easily stretched over a frame and formed by said frame.
It will be clear that any sheet like layer is conceivable for the invention as long as the layer has a suitable flexibility and the ability to reflect light towards crop to 25 promote growth thereof. Examples of such a sheet like layer may be woven or non-woven fabric.
According to a further aspect of the invention, the handling system comprises a frame which engages the foil for manoeuvring the elongate foil member between the 30 lower and upper position, and for shaping the foil member, when the foil member is in the upper position, such that the foil member extends in a substantially planar foil member plane which faces towards crop for directing light to the crop. This enables to move the foil member between the lower and upper position.
3
In an embodiment of the invention, the flexible foil member in its lower position extends generally flat across the passageway. This renders the passageway even more passable.
5
In an embodiment of the invention, the frame is hingeably supported and hinges in use around an hinging axe for manoeuvring the elongate foil member between the lower and upper position. This provides a robust way of moving the foil member between the lower and upper position.
10
In an embodiment of the invention, the frame comprises a foil shaping frame section and a foil positioning frame section.
In an embodiment of the invention, the foil positioning frame section is 15 adjustable for height adjusting the foil member upper position. This provides a flexible light directing system which is adaptable for different crop and/or crop growth.
In an embodiment of the invention, the foil shaping frame section engages the foil and has a shape such that the foil member is divided in respective foil member sections 20 which each extend in respective substantially planar foil member planes which respective planes face towards respective crop sections or line of crop for directing light to respective crop associated therewith.
In an embodiment of the invention, the foil shaping frame section has a saddle 25 roof shape such that light is directed toward two lines of crop adjacent a passageway.
In an embodiment of the invention, the handling system comprises a drive system coupled with the frame for driving the frame and manoeuvring the elongate foil member between the lower and upper position.
30
In an embodiment of the invention, the handling system comprises a number of frames arranged along the elongate foil member. This enables to move the foil member along the entire length between the between the lower and upper position.
4
In an embodiment of the invention, the handling system comprises a tensioning device coupled with the foil member for tensioning the foil on the frame. This enables to direct light in an optimal way and renders the passageway even more passable when 5 the foil member is in the lower position.
The invention further relates to a plant cultivation system comprising a light directing system according to the invention, arranged in a passageway between two adjacent lines of crop.
10
In an embodiment of the invention, the plant cultivation system comprises a number of light directing systems each arranged in a respective passageway between two adjacent lines of crop.
15 The invention further relates to a greenhouse comprising a light directing system according to the invention, arranged in a passageway between two adjacent lines of crop.
In an embodiment of the invention, the greenhouse comprises a number of light 20 directing systems each arranged in a respective passageway between two adjacent lines of crop.
In an embodiment of the invention, the greenhouse comprises a track system arranged in the passageway for guiding a machine along the passageway, wherein the 25 lighting system is countersunk arranged with respect to the track system.
The invention further relates to a method for a cultivation system for plants, wherein the cultivation system comprises two lines of crops and a passageway passable for an operator or machine extends between the two lines of crop, wherein the method 30 comprise the steps, - providing an elongate foil member which extends in the passageway for reflecting light towards the lines of crop, 5 - manoeuvring the elongate foil member between a lower position, wherein the passageway is passable for an operator or machine, and an upper position for reflecting light to the crop.
5 The invention further relates to a device comprising one or more of the characterising features described in the description and/or shown in the attached drawings.
The invention further relates to a method comprising one or more of the characterising features described in the description and/or shown in the attached 10 drawings.
The various aspects discussed in this patent can be combined in order to provide additional advantageous advantages.
