Abstract

The present disclosure is related to a polymer composition for the coating and protection of cultivated plants during frost conditions, characterized in that it comprises a non-phytotoxic acrylic polymer in liquid state, consisting preferably of a water-soluble potassium polyacrylate with a concentration of between 35% to 45% and the remaining being water without additives, catalysts or stabilizers. Said composition is applied in plants and fruits by a foliar spray and when partially dried, a semipermeable, transparent and elastic membrane is formed, that provides an effective shield to the plant to reduce the effects of deteriorating weather, such as low temperatures down to -2°C.; where such membrane does not get dry and neither the stomata nor the natural openings of the plant are sealed nor photosynthesis is avoided and, by being semipermeable, said membrane does not interfere at all in the effectiveness of other products applied in a foliar way. The present invention further rela tes to a method to obtain the aforementioned composition.
