Abstract

In the present disclosure, a hydrogel with zinc oxide nanoparticles and potential therapeutic applications is obtained, as this product has an antimicrobial activity against bacteria, therefore being suitable for use in treating burns and as a wound/injury dressing, by supplying or receiving moisture to provide a physiological environment for faster wound healing and pain relief. The hydrogel of the present invention can be applied in the treatment of wounds and injuries such as second and third-degree burns, pressure ulcers, diabetic ulcers, surgical wounds and various skin abrasions difficult to treat, partly due to possible infections caused by microorganisms and the incidence of superinfections by multiple drug resistant microorganisms. Furthermore, this hydrogel can be applied in a variety of forms, either as a topical treatment or impregnated in fabrics for medical use such as bandages or adhesive tape or other material.
