Pinched Pottery on Instagram: "7” in diameter 2” deep coiled/pinched bowl.  Made with mid fire dark stoneware clay and glazed with matte green/sage glaze.  Started with a ball of clay and added a few coils. I don’t use water or slip when coiling - clay has to be quite soft to be able to blend in well without water/slip. I always rough shape them first, let them dry until they are firm enough to be handled without losing their shape to do the final shaping/pinching. Whilst angular on the outside these bowls are curved on the inside, to achieve that they’re thrown fully rounded but with thick walls, then, a few days later after the clay has dried out to leather hard, their outsides are turned to be angular, like these. The thing is though, if you attempt to trim these when the clay is on the softer side, the walls often bow inward as you apply pressure from the outside, resulting in the interior shape deforming.
