I’m using it for this split and I’m catching the loops on the top and bottom creating tiny ‘V’s.  I like how it looks on the back - it goes through the loop of the pearl stitches. Work from left to right, keeping your stitches nice and close together. Angle your stitches to follow the curved shape of the scales. 2️⃣ Add shading to each scale by working straight stitches between the buttonhole stitches. Start with the scale at the bottom of the pine cone and work upwards. 3️⃣ Add the highlight along the top edge of each scale in detached buttonhole stitch. You work these stitches through each of the loops of the buttonhole stitches already stitches in place from step 1 – and not the fabric – so they’re ‘detached’. And that’s it!
