My mother used to mutter “I want a WIFE” angrily from time to time.

Later, after my parents split up and my mom’s bff’s spouse died, mom’s bff moved in. Mom would come home from work and the house would be clean! Dinner would be ready! Laundry done! Homework checked!

She called me up, delighted, a few weeks into it. “I was right! I DID want a wife!”

i remember the blissful 14 months when me and my friend shared a nanny, and coming back into the living room to find she had spontaneously tidied up the extreme chaos. That must be what it’s like, being a man, that you can just walk away from some mess to get ready for work, and when you come back somebody else has dealt with it without any physical or mental effort from you.

This is a map of the range of all giraffe species. By my count that puts them in just 16 countries out of the 54 in Africa (of which 5 are island countries with no territory on the continental mainland). That's 30%, quite a long way shy of all, and as you can see many of those countries that do have giraffes only have a tiny portion of their territory within giraffes' habitats

An update - as of July 2023, Angola has now reintroduced the Angolan giraffe into Iona National Park from the surviving population in Namibia, and reinforced the population with a second group in May 2024. Giraffes are ecosystem engineers in Angola because of their grazing habits, so once their population grows enough, they'll boost other species diversity too. It's still early days, but we're on the brink of that map needing to be expanded, which is lovely

yknow what forget phone calls. the most stressful thing writing with sb on business through INSTAGRAM. emails i can handle but contacting someone on social media? when others you know are borderline friends with this person and this person will know automatically that you have mutual acquaintances because the context betrays that fact? being 19 years old and trying to communicate with a business person who is in their 20s, friends with your 20yo classmates and you dont know him? and in a language that differentiates formal and informal addresses so now you feel ridiculous and old at the same time? ugh kill me now.
