You mean the kind that hangs a little "cheese wedge" on the underside of the back of the tank? They're for anything that's gonna launch hard and make the gas run away from a stock pickup (that is typically near the front of the tank). Plus you can fit a much larger line to them than a typical stock 3/8" pickup tube.
It's nice because it keeps the trunk space available for other stuff. But at a certain point it's time for a real fuel cell.
You can use them with a carb or EFI. My buddy's turbo Chevelle has a stock tank fitted with a rear sump. He uses an Aeromotive A1000 pump (which is capable of feeding a high pressure EFI setup) but regulates it down to carb-friendly pressures for use with his boost-referenced blow-through carb setup. By the time it's done it should run deep 10s. Currently in the 11s at low boost.
Definitely a good idea for a track type car.
The kits are cheap, and work perfect.
My 2 cents, don't cut out the metal, just drill 2 holes.
That helps when hitting the brakes, throwing the chutes.
Plus you can use any size fittings, and get much better volume then trying to use the stock stuff!!
