- - - - - - -Serafina Wilhelmina “Mimmi” Widbom was a professional seafarer. She worked as cook and chief steward on several of Åland shipowner Gustaf Erikson’s ships in the early 1900s. She rounded Cape Horn eight times and made her last voyage as an active sailor in 1943.

Martti Oiva Kalevi Ahtisaari is a Finnish politician, the tenth President of Finland (1994–2000), Nobel Peace Prize laureate and United Nations diplomat and mediator, noted for his international peace work.The Åland Islands form an archipelago in the Baltic Sea. They are situated at the entrance to the Gulf of Bothnia and form an autonomous, demilitarised, monolingually Swedish-speaking region of Finland. The islands collectively constitute the smallest region of Finland.
