I like the world building of the Index / Railgun series (though I generally prefer the Railgun anime series overall), but because they are two separate series that do not necessarily follow each other chronologically and they are often released some time apart from one another, and I lose track of what is going on. I have three questions:

1. At the start of Railgun T, Kuroko is hospitalised. That is following what event?

2. Is the series easier to follow on in manga form?

3. To be honest I haven't watched the third seasons of Index or the Accelerator spin off (and any other spin offs). I've generally preferred the Railgun series to the Index series even though I know Railgun is technically the spin off. The rating for Index III kinda put me off too. Would I be better off just reading the manga?

1. That follows Tree Diagram Remnant arc.
2. I mean the chronology isn't any different in manga form for both Index and Railgun, but I guess the extra details help.
3. Index manga hasn't adapted till the last arc of S3. I think reading the LN would be better, but I believe the manga is good as well. Although Index manga skipped Angel Fall and Deep Blood.

Kuroko was in a wheelchair because of something that happened back in Index II. When she got into fight with another teleporter Esper and was badly injured. Railgun T as whole takes place during the time of Index II because both start with the Daihasei Festival arc. In fact the scene where Saten meets Touma in Railgun T there is also a similar scene in Index II.

for index you would be better of reading the novel then watching season 3 at all just because how butchered the season was.

However i must point this out you seem to be under a common misconception. they are not two separate series and never have been railguns manga which the anime is from is a Gaiden which is know in japan as a supplementary series rather then it's own separate thing as most westerners view spin offs. it heavily relies on people reading the main series.

Railgun was specifically made to be viewed along with Index the manga was made for Light novel readers to enjoy first and formost and will contain a TON of unexplained content and we have reached the section of arcs where the author basically gives Railgun onlies the middle finger for not reading/watching any of index.

on the flip side NT punishes people for not reading Railgun manga as a later arc references the previous arc we just saw in railgun T.

they are very much a singular series that expect you to follow both.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe the whole thing is more cohesive than the impression I am having if I watch the whole thing within a relatively shorter period of time.. But given there was about 6 years between the release of Railgun S and Index 3, I wonder how / if anime only viewers can really follow.

I'd like to ask for myself ... I plan to watch S3 Index eventually although I'm not sure I should/need to watch it before binge-watching this after it finishes airing,

but... I completed Railgun S in 2013, and Index 2 in 2012 even though I never watched the movie afterwards.
Unlike Index I watched all of the installments of Railgun since 2011.

I barely remember any event and as a fan still remember her in feeling but... should I rewatch the last season or maybe Railgun as a whole again to understand T? Index I don't care to rewatch because I also prefer Railgun over Index but should I complete it before watching T?...

T doesnt really need Railgun S. If you remember that Misaka cares about the Sisters that is enough.

For T, Index II is what matters because Touma has his own festival arc before the main events of Railgun T. Railgun T actually references some of the stuff that happen during Index's version, like the bus that exploded and caused the traffic jam that blocked Misaki and Misaka.

Ah, alright. I'll keep that in mind then. Thanks.
'Guess I'll find a recap or skim through that scene and maybe skim rewatch Railgun to remember and enjoy the story/cast more clearly.
