GOOSE GRASS AND BINDWEED

Goosegrass, bindweed, bluebess, brambles and the remains of a celandine.

The Goosegrass in the title goes up the middle It isn't grass and is also called 'Cleavers' - the leaves are slightly sticky and when the little seed balls develop they will cling easily to your clothes. Bindweed (convolvulus) has large heart shaped leaves and will have huge, white, trumpet-like flowers. Bottom right - three leaves on the top of a stalk - new bramble leaves (blackberries!). To the left of the bramble, right at the bottom of the page, is a lesser celandine leaf. The blueish flowers are - Bluebells! Above the lowest bluebell flower is a tiny, yellow, star-like shape. This is the remains of a Celandine flower. The grass is easy to identify as grass but I don't know what kind it is. (Pretty tough though.) I think the leaves to the right of the top bluebell are baby Nettles. I wouldn't be surprised if there aren't more plants in there too!

GORSE

Gorse Flowers

Flowers are all but banned on Message in a Milk Bottle. Initially, I thought I'd put gorse here because it's seasonal. But it isn't really. Gorse flowers all year. However, it's more noticeable when skies are blue - and there were blue skies on April 1st.

BINDWEED AND BUDDLEIA

Purple buddleia flowers and white bindweed flowers with bramble stems and blue sky

I rarely show pictures of flowers but as this is how the hedgerows are just now I'd have to go to great lengths to avoid them.

Saying this reminds me of the song 'I Only Bought You Flowers' by 'The Other Guys' so I'll put a YouTube link below. It simultaneously makes me smile and tearful. If you'd like your heart to be lifted in a sunny day kind of way, try it.

P.S. This was scheduled for tomorrow but something's gone wrong! It'll probably pop up again then. Sorry.

GREETINGS - AND A NEW POST

Hello Everyone.

Hope you are enjoying January.

You might like to know there's a new post on my other blog - Loose and Leafy.

It introduces a tree I will be 'following' this year - along with the plants which grow beneath, beside and over (yes, 'over'!) it.

Here's a sample photo.

Here's a link to the post.

Hope to see you there!
