Oriental themes are common these days, whether that is due to general interest or Asian markets opening up is a question left unanswered. The name itself doesn’t seem to imply anything else than a connection to Japan here. Indeed, you will find samurais, geishas, and ninjas as soon as you step into the game. This is a rather new slot and it shows in the production values, with plenty of entertainment on offer.
Theme
A beautiful red sun setting over the mountains and the calm sea can be found in the background. Tranquil traditional Japanese tunes can be heard repeating as you spin the reels. The atmosphere is well done here, though perhaps in need of an animation or two. The reels are devoid of any classic symbols and instead offer purely themed icons. Cranes, weapons, banners, and flowers of different kinds offer plenty of aesthetics. The theme is perfectly implemented, and not just a sorry excuse for just another slot. Saucify has done a good job here.
Betting Options and Functions
There are fifty paylines, with all combinations going through them counted from both left and right. In other words, the combinations must start on the first or the fifth reel. Scatters, as usual, pay in any position. Otherwise, the setup is the standard five reels in three rows with a minimum of three symbols needed for a winning combination.
You can’t choose which paylines are in play, though you can choose how many are. Each payline can have between one and five coins bet on it, with the value of each coin decided separately. Depending on denomination this can be 0.01 to 0.25, meaning that a spin with max bet is going to cost 62.50 coins. The wins are quite low, ranging from double your bet per line to fifty times the bet. Though the wild, when five in line, pays up to a thousand coins.
Features
On reel three the wild, which is the maiden, or the geisha, can show up triple high. Otherwise, she is present as singular wild in all other reels. Any combination that the wild is part of is doubled in worth.
There are two different scatters. Three, four or five temple scatters launch 10, 14, or 16 free spins respectively. These can be retriggered. The crane scatter on the other hand launches pick a prize game. Three of them allow you to pick one prize from three choices, four two from four choices, and five cranes give you the chance to pick three prizes from five choices. The prizes are in proportion to your total bet.
The samurai and the ninja offer no special functions, except that they come stacked on certain reels while showing up in their singular form on other reels. They are the high paying symbols, so when showing up with wilds you can expect massive payouts.
Our Take
Though the base prizes here are quite low, they are so for a reason. Fifty paylines that pay from either direction means that you are looking to land as many of the same symbols on the screen as possible. When this happens, and you have wilds in the mix, you can land some astronomical wins. Most of the time you are spinning for thin air though. High variance in other words. Quality-wise the slot is excellent and works wonderfully both in mobile and desktop devices.
