  • I decided to compile a list of learning/help/training that is available at various sites.  The help available is generally designed for new players but some sites do offer advanced poker play help.

This will be an ongoing thread and sites will be added continuously.

I'm going to start this thread off with:

Blackchip Poker (USA OK).  This site offers training videos and you will find the link to these videos at the bottom of their poker home page.  Some of the subjects covered are

    Stretch Your Poker Dollar

    Fold Equity

    Low Stakes SitnGos Part 1

    Multitabling

888 Poker (NO USA) offer some very basic instructions on the following:

    Ring Games

    Texas Holdem

    Seven Card Stud

    Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo

    Omaha Hi

    Omaha Hi/Lo

No Limit & Pot Limit Games

    Face2Face

In each section they explain the rules of each type of game, how to join them and how to play in each game.  It is quite a useful tool if you are looking to learn the rules of poker, the betting, showdown etc.

Underneath the list of games, you can find the heading "Poker Tips".  Click on that and you will find some fantastic tips including:

    Mental Preparation & Hand Selection

    The Art of Bluffing

    The Dos and Don'ts

    Sizing up the opposition

Knowing When to Fold and When To Hold

    Location, Location, Location

These are just a few of the 44 available tips.

Of course, I can't bypass the fact that this site is offering £5/$8 absolutely FREE when you sign up.

  • What a wonderful idea! Thanks blue...I for one will be glued to this thread...

    Thanks again!!!!

  • What a wonderful idea! Thanks blue...I for one will be glued to this thread...

After I said the words in red above, I started thinking what that would look like... Katt glued to a thread... hmmm Perhaps one of these would fit...

  • Bet365 (no USA) have a "poker university" and at the end of each group of learning, you can take a quiz.

    The sections covered:

    Advanced strategy which covers:

        Outs and Their Importance

        Pot Odds

        Blind Stealing

        Bankroll Management

        Bluffing

At the end of each of these sections there is a quiz to test your learning but you will need to sign up to be able to enter your username in the quiz sections.  If you are USA or any other precluded country for this site, you can still watch and listen to the training videos.

You can find this useful tool via "Poker Toolbox".  A pop-up window will appear (you will need to allow this if you have them blocked).  Under poker toolbox on the popup, you will see "Poker University".  Click on poker university and then you should be able to see the "Enrol Now" tab near the middle of the page.  Click on Enrol Now and a new window will pop up which looks like a laptop.  From there, you will be able to choose which section (as outlined above) you would like to look at.

    Test your knowledge

Don't be fooled by the lack of headings.  This is quite hefty reading and the final section, "test your knowledge", is an interactive Q & A session with 16 questions designed to test your hand, odds and outs and strategy knowledge.  At the end of the test, there is a summary of how many you got right out of 16 and an explanation for each scenario.

This is a really useful training section and definitely worth a visit.  You don't need to be logged in to take part or view any of this information.

  • A rare strategy I came across while playing Poker games:

Poker games needs a specific skill set pertaining to the choice of discarding the cards. In video poker games, you need to play from 1 to 5 coins wherein machine gives you five cards out of which you choose to keep and discard a few. The discarded ones are replaced by the machine and thereafter you are well paid proportional to the value of cards in your hand. Many people misunderstand video poker as an expensive mode of gambling which is not so. It is only mistakes and casual behavior that take heavy toll on players. Don’t hurry while playing as you have infinite time to make decision about your next move. Video poker is the game of intelligence instead sheer excitement as it pretends to be.  :-bd :)

  • Hi and welcome Rachel Charlie.
