  • Good day everyone, I am still relatively new to gambling. I have been practicing online, but my main goal now is to try playing in land based casinos ... in part, because I suspect that the Random Number Generator (RNG) programs are not "truly" random.

To give a quick example, in flipping a quarter it would not be difficult to get a few heads or tails in a row, but it should be rare to get 15 in a row. It often seems when I get online the first many hands of a game (say blackjack) have a huge number of wins or losses in a row and then it settles down to rougly equal wins and losses. I have also read about RNG programs and that they show they are random across millions of plays. This does leave wiggle room for short bursts of play where high numbers could win awhile and low numbers could win awhile but average out to "random" ... but which seems unlikely in real play with real cards or wheels or dice.

I am curious, can anyone who has played a lot both online and in land based casinos say whetehr or not these long streaks are indeed more common online? Thanks in advance!

  • Hmm, there are many factors in flipping a coin, you know, the circumstances are never idealy the same so that they can be compared, so the example maybe isn't the most suitable for comparison with an online casino.

Now, if you compare brick and mortar casinos with online counterparts, I personally never saw a real difference. Slots are slots, same software logic applies to both and the RNG functions the same way. When it comes to cards or wheels or dice, even though in online casino a pseudo RNG is employed, the aproximation should be so good that there is just no way you can notice a difference.

Still, if you don't trust RNG that much, and at the same time you like playing table games, may I suggest trying out live games? Dealers are actually using real cards/dice/roulette wheels, so it definitely adds another dimension to online table games. If seeing real cards (or roulette wheel spinning) is the only thing holding you from playing online, this may exactly be the right thing for you.

Thank you for the suggestion. It is something that has already crossed my mind ... perhaps I am holding off because it is slower to play.  If I see no difference between land and online casinos, I will probably just go ahead and play with the RNG's. If I see a difference, I might go try the live casino and see what happens.

  • Well ... I took an opportunity to go to a land based casino to try and play with real cards, etc.  Right at the start, I had quite a losing streak with blackjack and quite a winning streak at roulette ... exactly what I did not expect. I guess I need to re-think the frequency of online streaks.

  • Hey guys,

We have a new video featuring RNGs, duscussing if the random number generator is really random, check it out - you might find it interesting!

  • thanks for this video explanation

  • I took a statistics class in university ... and had to use some of it for my biology degree (testing randomness of locations of bird nests, etc). ... true randomness is extremely difficult to produce.

    Thanks for the video.
